Forerunner 210 (without heart rate monitor)

Quick and Simple-to-use

Garmin Forerunner 210: It's also a watch
Garmin Forerunner 210: It's also a watch

The Garmin Forerunner 210 is an easy-to-use GPS sportswatch that measures your time, pace, distance and more. There is virtually no setup required, so it is ideal for runners who simply want to step outside, acquire satellites and start their workout. It is also suitable for improving runners and those wanting to take their training to the next level with intervals and zone training.

Easy to use

There are four buttons around the watch face, corresponding to start/stop, menu, lap/reset and a backlight. There are two different displays – one shows the time and date, the other is a timer page which also shows pace and distance. This means you can use the Forerunner 210 as a watch while you're not exercising.

Train Smarter, Not Harder

Whether you're training to complete your first 5k or you want to get faster and fitter, accurate workout data is the key. Forerunner 210 uses GPS to accurately record your distance, time and pace. Data from each run is stored in the unit, so you can go back and see how you did last week or last month.

Take it further

Forerunner 210 also lets you create customised interval sessions and monitor your pace during each one. Create work-outs based on time, distance and/or rest intervals during your training session.

Review, Relive and Replay

Tracking your data is simple with Garmin Connect™. Visit the website at http://connect.garmin.com for free data analysis and sharing. Just upload to Garmin Connect from your PC or Mac, then see the route you travelled on a map, view a summary of your work-out data, create goals, monitor your progress and more.

Fast and Accurate

Forerunner 210 features HotFix satellite prediction, which means it locks onto satellites quickly so you can be out the door and on your run in no time. It also has a high-sensitivity GPS receiver to stay locked onto satellites, even near tall buildings or under tree cover.

While 210 can be worn as a watch even when you're not working out, you can also power it down completely to conserve battery life.

Optional accessories

The Forerunner 210 is also available with a heart rate monitor to measure beats per minute and enables you to customise to your exact zones and accurately measure your calories burned.

An optional footpod enables you to measure your workout indoors, on a treadmill for example, making it ideal for those who like to train in a gym as well as outside.

This is a great bit of kit which I bought to replace a Polar watch, HRM and footpod that I had had for a few years and, until the watch broke, was very comfortable using. I had avoided GPS based devices in the past because many were quite large/heavy and reports that they were unreliable in acquiring the satellites. It was therefore with some scepticism that I made the plunge into the world of GPS based devices and bought a Garmin Forerunner 210. However, I needn't have been worried as the 210 does exactly what it says in the advertising material!

As soon as it arrived I charged it, which took a couple of hours, then took it on a run. The device picked up the HRM monitor straight away and acquired the satellites in about a minute.

On the run the display provided exactly the information I needed - how far I had run, at what pace I was running, how long for and my HR. The display is easy to read and toggling through the elapsed time, clock and HR views is easy.

On return I uploaded the information on the device to Garmin Connect which provided an extensive analysis of the run including plotting it on a map. I use the wed based version of Garmin Connect through Firefox (on a Linux based PC) which does not support the Garmin Connect plug-in, but manually uploading the file from the watch is easy.

Bottom-line - this is a light and easy to use device which should provide most club runners with just what they need. Highly recommended.

This is a good product. I use it several times a week and it's great at a what it does. However please be aware that the device is not waterproof. I was aware of this when I bought it and thought it would not be a problem as I had no intention of diving with it ;). Moisture will get into the device causing the window to 'steam up' with moisture - sometimes for days - making reading the watch difficult. Be aware if you go out in even a modest shower this can happen. I have been out on glorious days and the heat from my arm has caused another "steaming up" presumably from residual moisture in the watch. I've seen other reviewers say this - but I'm a little astonished Garmin don't make it waterproof. This one gripe will make me think very carefully when it comes time to upgrade or replace.

Apart from this gripe it's a great product - with a great web based system at Garmin to use with it.

This watch is perfect for those runners who wish to record there results and compete against there previous runs. I live in Orkney and i find the watch connects in about a minute or so. It is also good for doing interval training inside which i also use it for. The only thing is that i would i would prefer to upload my workouts wirelessly to my computer which you can do with some of the newer watches. Battery life is good when not using it to during exercise however if using constantly for exercise it may only last a couple of days before needing to be charge again.

I took up running and needed a simple way of tracking how far I'd run, for how long and how many calories I'd burnt along the way as any apps I'd tried on my phone were either clunky or kept losing the signal during the run.

A bit of research led me to the Garmin Forerunner range and I narrowed my choice down to the 210 as it seemed to do all I need and had the added advantage of pairing to a chest band heart rate monitor (I think it's available without this but I decided to go with the one that had it bundled with it).

So far so good - I love that I can upload a run and see my route on a map on Garmin Connect (I can bore my husband for hours with this stuff), it shows my pace on a graph and also my heart rate. Changing between walking and running is simple with the push of the lap button (so I can keep my pace for each of these separate but it will still show a combined overall pace) and I can set intervals so it will beep when its time to run or time to slow down again. The Autolap feature means it will automatically split each mile or KM off so you can analyse the results later - all good stuff and there's probably loads more things I haven't got around to playing with yet!

I've used it in the rain and forgot to take it off in the shower without any ill effects though I'm not sure the shower should be encouraged as it isn't fully waterproof - you can't go swimming with it. Battery seems more than adequate for my needs (about 8hrs actual use ie connecting to satellites and HRM) although it will last a few weeks if just used as a normal watch.

Size is ok even for my skinny wrists - I wouldn't get away with wearing it as an everyday watch but for running it is very comfortable, doesn't move around and the display is very clear.

This 210 is a great GPS running watch, well designed, nice and discreet on wrist (I'm smallish female). I don't have to lug my iPhone round with me any more. I could never read the iPhone display while running anyway so I treated myself to a GPS watch. Looked at a few brands, went with Garmin, went basic. (After a nightmare try with the BAD BAD BAD 410 - please do not buy the 410 - one word - bezel).
By contrast, the 210 is lovely, easy to navigate menus, 4 buttons, picks up signal within few seconds. Good lap indicator, useful for setting intervals, nice display for current pace/speed, average pace/speed, distance. Holds battery charge beautifully, I charge it once a week (I run with it about 20 miles a week). It has really enhanced my love of running. I'm at the stage where I'm trying to get a bit of speed into my half marathon distance so this watch helps me monitor my paces rather than guess them. Connects fairly easily with Garmin website via my Mac, so you can download and analyse your stats but you can also do this on the watch's History menu - it keeps all your runs and you can see your mile split times on the watch while you're having your reward coffee and donut.
Buy and enjoy.
