The Garmin FR60

A simple-to-use sportswatch that is ideal for all round fitness, whether you are cycling or running, in the gym or outside. Switch your workout between sport modes and activities in the press of a button.

The men’s FR60 comes in two colours, grey/red and black with each colour signifying its specific offering – the Grey / red FR60 comes with a heart rate monitor and the Black FR60 has a heart rate monitor as well as a slim footpod, for those who want to keep an eye on their distance and pace.

    I bought this gadget for my first marathon and have been training with it all the time. It's basically a sports watch with a heart rate monitor and a foot pod (a high tech pedometer). I have been very impressed with its accuracy over lots of different distances and terrain. Generally it's about 96% accurate out of the box without any calibration. When it comes to the long distances the 4% variance makes hardly any difference. I would highly recommend this watch if you don't want any GPS/mapping features.

    Pro's:
    * Very accurate out of the box
    * Looks like a regular sports watch (i.e. not too big on your wrist)
    * You can download all your workouts to the Garmin Training Centre software or upload it to the Garmin Connect website and do lots of geeky analysis
    * Can be used indoors on treadmills (unlike GPS watches)
    * Measures speed, pace, distance, heart rate, calories

    Cons:
    * No GPS or mapping
    * You can't download training programs created in Garmin Training Center to the watch
    * Menu system takes a while to get used to
    * Backlight not that bright

    Great product. Bought this as an addition to my Garmin Edge 500 which I use on bike. This was purchased for use when running but I have it linked up to my cadence sensor on bike and my wife uses the Edge when we go out for a cycle together. This gives me the flexibility of using the watch to record all data and the luxury of my wife being able to see how she is going. I am now wearing the watch as it looks well unlike other HRM's. I won't go into detail about the various functions as other people have documented this in detail, suffice to say it records all my cycling data and when compared to that captured on my Edge it is accurate.

    I'm a sadly re-addicted returning runner. Used to do all sorts of sports and used numerous Polar, Cardiosport HRM's now I've got the training bug again and decided to splash out on a better quality HRM. I have not been disappointed. Easy to get operational from the box, great 3 screen that can be customised and simple download system that gives us sad techno Fit geeks hours of interesting info. Provided you are reasonably computer literate in the first place!

    Clear legible display in use and fairly comfy chest strap (much better than my original Polar one) but it's still a chest strap. The footpod seems secure but as I run off-road I would have preferred a safety tie somewhere. Very light watch and strap seems well designed and durable,,,, Time will tell ;o) more later,, Time to run.

    I love mine
    I love my FR60. Who needs GPS, that takes anything up to 5 mins to find a signal? If you don't know where you're going, a 305/405/310XT isn't going to help you. Read more
