Dash cam 20

Easy-To-Use Driving Recorder With GPS

Dash cam 20 is a reliable, easy-to-use HD driving recorder with GPS that can capture both motion and still shots. It mounts to any vehicle's windscreen and continuously records a wide-angle view of the road while you’re driving.

Once installed, the camera is fully automated: It starts recording when the engine is turned on and stops when it is turned off (when connected to a switched power outlet in the car). The integrated gravity sensor (G-Sensor) automatically detects incidents, such as braking or a collision, and saves the relevant video files along with footage from a few moments preceding and following the event.

The GPS receiver time-stamps and geo-tags all footage, so users can view exactly where and when events occurred.

Dash Cam 20: Fully Automated When Driving

Garmin Dash Cam 20 is like a personal eyewitness that never misses an incident and provides proof of what happens on the road. The aim is to give drivers peace of mind, knowing any events that might occur will be captured. Features such as an internal microphone and GPS add valuable context to the video files

Record in High Definition

Mount Garmin Dash Cam 20 to your windshield and record your drive in 1080p, 720p or WVGA. Dash Cam 20 records in a continuous loop, using the included 4 GB microSD card. To add more memory, add a larger microSD card (accepts up to 32 GB). Play back the footage on the LCD display or review later on your computer.

The camera has a wide-angle lens that captures the entire road. Its integrated microphone gives you the option of recording audio inside the vehicle.

Your Eyewitness That Never Blinks

There’s no need to worry about starting and stopping. If Dash Cam 20 is plugged into a powered source, it is recording.

All footage is stamped with time and location so you know exactly when and where events occurred. When reviewing footage on your computer, you’ll have a record of latitude, longitude, date, time, speed and direction of travel.

The camera features automatic incident detection (G-Sensor) with customisable sensitivity settings. When an incident – like hard braking or a collision – is detected, your camera knows to save the current, last and next recordings; thereby, preserving a complete record of the event.

The 2.3-inch colour display makes it easy to position the camera in the car and review video right on the device (when the vehicle is stopped of course). Dash Cam 20 is easy to install using the included suction cup mount for the windshield as well as a vehicle power cable. For a close-up view of vehicle or property damage, users can remove Dash Cam 20 from the vehicle and take snapshots

Tools to Review the Drive

Pop your camera’s microSD card into your computer or use the USB cable provided to connect the Dash Cam 20 to your computer and use the free PC Tool software to review your drive in detail (not compatible with Mac or Windows 8). Watch the video and its related data; see a map of the route, and use the Snapshot tool to grab still images.

As an owner of four Garmin sat-navs, and two Garmin etrex's you could say I'm a bit of a Garmin fan.

The Dash Cam 20 however is a poor performer for the price. It's a solid well built unit with easy to operate buttons, typical Garmin quality. It was bought for my second vehicle after buying a cheap 'E Prance 0801'.

The bad? 1. The supplied cable is a standard 1.2m cable and is too short to route around the screen, you'll need to buy an extension. 2. The mount is the basic screen sucker with a fixed stem rather than a swivel stem which means you can't move the camera further towards or away from the screen. 3. The worst fault however is simply poor quality video, it gives high contrast video which gives a harsh picture quality with blown highlights and shadows without detail. There is nothing you can do to correct this fault.

I might have thought this was a good camera if the cheap 'E prance 0801' dash cam didn't give noticeably better quality video for a third of the price. I also bought a 'Transcend Drive Pro 200' which gave significantly better video quality and which I would have kept had it not had the most 'mickey mouse' screen mount and was therefore returned.

I'll probably order another 'E Prance' which for the money is a bargain.

As a blue-light emergency response driver trainer for the ambulance service I am finding this device excellent value. The image quality is excellent and the device is very easy to use. The supplier assisted me to purchase a larger, 32GB memory card, in addition to the 4GB included. Very happy with my purchase.

I have just bought one of these units.

It seems to work pretty well. The video quality is excellent and the unit seems pretty straightforward to use.

However, you are forced to download something called Garmin Express which really doesn't seem to work very well at all. I have seen in other reviews on the Internet that this is a very flaky piece of software sometimes connects - and other times doesn't. For a company the size of Garmin and for the price this kind of hardware, you would have expected them to have something really good - but they haven't. The software is basically rubbish.

The manual is minimal - but then I suppose you don't need too much. However, the manual is not complete and doesn't answer certain questions such as:
does the unit keep on charging even if it is switched off? Or must it be switched on for charging to occur? There is no indicator light and there is no reference to this in the manual.
You get an error message saying that there is no more space for protected video recordings. There is absolutely no reference to this in the manual. What does it mean? Is there a fixed amount of space - or is it a percentage of the SD card? If it is a percentage then I suppose that means that if I get a larger SD card and I have more space for protected video recordings. I really think that this very basic information about their error messages or their warnings ought to be included in the Garmin manual and on their website and it isn't.
I keep on getting a nag screen in the car about whether I want to connect it to a computer. Why am I getting this? Why doesn't it recognise that it is connected to a car and not a computer? I'm sure that I didn't get this message at the beginning - but now I seem to get it all the time.
