BirdsEye Select enables you to choose customized sections of raster-based maps (such as Ordnance Survey Explorer™ maps in Great Britain) and download them to your compatible Garmin handheld.
BirdsEye Select uses data directly derived by the most popular paper map series’ in Europe. These include the territories of Germany, France, Great Britain, the Republic of Ireland, as well as the popular Kompass branded maps for Austria in addition to the Eastern Alps (Southern Germany/Northern Italy), and Switzerland.
Using Garmin’s free application BaseCamp™ www.garmin.com/basecamp simply buy a retail card in store, redeem the product key online, select your desired coverage area in BaseCamp and then transfer the raster map data straight to your handheld device, ready to go for your next outdoor adventure.
The BirdsEye Select map detail varies between 1:25K to 1:50K scale raster maps depending on the country or data provider. If you already use Garmin TOPO vector series or other Garmin topographic vector maps, these maps can be mashed with the BirdsEye Select data onto your device to enhance your chosen area and give the best of both mapping worlds: familiarity of the local paper maps as well as the intelligence of the Garmin vector series.

The size and scale of mapping available depends on country and map supplier. Birdseye Select Great Britain provides 600 sq km at 1:25,000; Birdseye Select Eire provides 600 sq km at a scale of 1:50,000; BirdsEye Select France provides 1,500 sq km of mapping at 1:25,000; BirdsEye Select Kompass – Austria & Easter Alps (Germany/Italy) provides 1:50,000 sq km at 1:50,000; BirdsEye Select Kompass – Switzerland provides 2400 sq km at 1:50,000.
