Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The widescreen nüvi 2300LT brings comes with premium traffic avoidance for the lifetime of the unit, PhotoReal™ junction view and advanced navigation features like nüRoute™ technology and PhotoReal™ Junction View.

It comes with preloaded mapping for UK and Ireland and its text to speech function speaks upcoming street names and places for extra route awareness, letting you keep your eyes on the road, not on the sat nav. Premium lifetime traffic avoidance alerts you to traffic delays and roadworks on your planned journey and finds a route around. Lane Assist with PhotoReal™ junction view shows the correct lane choice for upcoming junctions and motorway exits with accurate landscape detail and road signs. nüRoute™ myTrends™ technology learns your driving habits and recognises your favourite destinations to predict where you're going based on the time of day and your location. These advanced routing capabilities save time otherwise spent manually activating a route on a repeat journey and refine route planning based on your previous travel experiences and past route conditions.

nüvi 2300LT comes with the unique Cyclops™ safety camera warning system built in, giving real-time, reliable and accurate alerts, overspeed warning and speed limit information as you approach one of hundreds of fixed, mobile, variable limit and temporary safety cameras. nüvi 2300LT also enables you to correct and update road speeds with speed limit reporting and share with other drivers via USB.

Multi-route preview shows available routes on the map for visual comparison before you select your preferred journey and the ecoRoute™ fuel-saver feature helps you save money and fuel and reduce your carbon footprint with the option to follow the ‘less fuel’ route to your destination. ecoRoute also helps you to develop more efficient driving habits, calculates trip cost and enables accurate expense reporting.

Experience complete door-to-door navigation with nüvi 2300LT’s pedestrian navigation capabilities. Purchase optional cityXplorer mapping for directions for places you wouldn't be accessing while in your car including footpaths and shortcuts through parks. It also tells you where to catch trains, buses and tubes (dependent on the city) and how long it will take you to reach your destination. cityXplorer even contains public transport timetables to ensure you arrive at the station on time and avoid delays and long waits (dependent on the city). When continuing the journey on foot, nüvi 2300LT uses Park Position Recall to automatically mark and help you navigate back to the place you park – ideal when leaving your vehicle on an unfamiliar road or busy retail complex.

The Where am I? emergency locator is very helpful if you break down or need a local service urgently. Simply tap the car icon on the map screen to view your exact coordinates, nearest address and junction, get contact details for vehicle recovery services and directions to hospitals, police and petrol stations nearby.

I purchased one of these units in February 2012 directly from Garmin. It arrived and I connected it to my laptop and updated the operating system and maps as recommended in the manual. Unfortunately, as soon as I went to use the device, I found that the latest maps are obsolete. I live near the Hindhead Tunnel which opened in July last year and many local roads and junctions around the tunnel have been changed, including digging up the old A3 where it passed between the Devils Punchbowl and Hindhead Common. None of these changes are reflected on the latest maps available from Garmin, whereas Tomtom had updated their own maps about two weeks before the tunnel had actually opened.

The design of the cradle uses a mini USB connector for power and the satnav device itself uses a micro USB connector for connection to your PC, although this cable is NOT included. I can only guess that to save costs to themselves, Garmin updated the devices, but stuck with an old cradle design.

I called Garmin to ask how to return it for a refund and was told, after holding for about 20 minutes, that as I had updated the maps, I am unable to return this useless lump of plastic. I explained that this is not mentioned anywhere on their website trading terms and that my consumer rights entitle me to a refund, but they refused to budge on their stance.

As a result of this experience, I suggest that if you do want a satnav with outdated maps from Garmin, buy it from Amazon who will give you a refund if you want to return it in the first 30 days.

I only bought my 2300LT as it (allegedly) comes with a lifetime traffic subscription. Only trouble is, the traffic icon stays green even when I am stuck in the most immense traffic jam with a major accident in front of me. I have had my unit for six months now, and in that time it only went red once (and that was when the M25 and entire surrounding area came to gridlock due to the QE2 bridge being shut) and twice it went amber when there wasn't actually any traffic. It always says "No traffic on route" even when I have spent literally hours stuck in jams. The software is up to date, the aerial is properly connected (I even use the external antenna for better reception) and traffic avoidance enabled, but still my 2300LT tells me there's no traffic when there are tailbacks of sometimes up to seven or eight miles. I reported this to Garmin who told me to do a whole series of things I have already done and now they are out of answers. They also keep telling me to use menu items that don't even exist on my unit. Finally they tell me that if the green traffic icon is showing that means a traffic signal is being received. (Really?!!!) God knows where this pile of junk gets its info from but having Googled the subject it seems this is a common problem with nuvi devices. Do not buy this under any circumstances if you want it for the traffic info. It's a waste of time. PS. I live in Kent and do all my travel within London and the M25 so it isn't a coverage problem either!

Sent back to Amazon the Garmin Nuvi 2300LT UK as the connector from the in-car charger is to large to fit into the micro socket of the Garmin. Amazon promptly sent out a replacement. The replacement has the same problem! Come on Garmin what about your Quality Control! Will be sending back the replacement again this weekend.

I bought this to replace an earlier Garmin and it is so much better: little things like 2 trip meters, speed limit always on screen with actual speed and the extra detail and information that you get on those complicated junctions makes negotiating them a breeze, I could eulagise about this a lot more but breakfast calls!

    Verified Purchase
Having had good service from a Nuvi I wanted an Update. Ordered a Nuvi 2300LT. What a disappointment. The first arrived but froze the first time I used it. I attempted to register it with my original USB/Nuvi cable but Garmin site refused to recognise it. So I returned it to Amazon and received a replacement. The USB mini connection has been changed and neither the original Nuvi cable nor any of my 3 USB minis fitted. New cable purchased, tried everything but had exactly the same problems. Having wasted hours and suffered a great deal of frustration I gave up! I returned the kit to Amazon for a refund. No More Garmin!

    Three key points:
    1. How do Garmin get away with calling the USB cable an "Optional Extra" when it is essential for registering and updating the kit? With Tom Tom it's included! I suppose if Garmin sold cars, tyres would be considered an "optional extra?

    2. Amazon service was absolutely superb throughout, including the Advice centre and the "Returns Service". A pity that such an excellent service should be so let down by a product supplier!

    3. Should I try TOM TOM? Most revues complain about the software and related problems. Is this an endemic shortcoming of all Sat-Navs?

Was I just unlucky? - what twice? Though my anger and frustration have now subsided I am somewhat biased against Garmin. Paper maps suddenly appear very appealing!

Garmin Nüvi 2300LT UK and Ireland Mapping Lifetime Traffic Subscription What appears to be an excellant satnav, is spoilt by the near impossibly small mini usb up/download connection point situated on the base of the unit. Having ordered the Garmin mini usb lead to go with it, it was still impossible to connect to pc. So thankfully on visiting our local Halfords a fantastic chap there gave us (free of charge) an adaptor that although a TomTom item, fitted into the offending "slot" allowing me to then plug in a standard mini usb lead (I used a Samsung lead off my camcorder). Apparently this is a problem on some models of Garmin satnavs.....so advise NOT to try and force a mini usb lead into the slot that is obviously too small. It is also strange that the connection on the holding "clamp" that powers the unit is a standard mini usb fitting.....you'd have thought the power point would be the same size as the down/upload point. Again I may be a bit mean on my 1 star rating, but having chased around for 2 days trying to sort out the problem I feel that at a cost to Garmin of an additional couple of pounds on the sale price of each unit, Garmin should include a suitable mini usb lead with the unit.
