Please do not buy this product only it's so dangerous.A baby squirrel got it's paws caught in mine and damaged its legs and had to be put to sleep.
According to the animal help line this happens alot!

I was given one of these as a gift. Although I thought it very pretty for a bird feeder, the birds themselves don't seem to like it much, the peanuts sit, get wet and go mouldy. I have now taken it down and reverted to bog-standard peanut feeder. Don't go there!

I bought this feeder after squirrels chewed through my other wire feeders - for some reason they can't seem to manage it with this one! They still hang up side down and steal the nuts though. I haven't had any problems with the links breaking - even when full of peanuts and supporting an upside down squirrel! I'd recommend it highly and particularly at the price. Despite the squirrel interest the birds like it too!

31 Aug 2008 - Amazon won't let me change the 5 stars, but if I could I would! After writing my review above my bird feeder promptly broke. Obviously the squirrels have got a bit well fed and have now reached the appropriate weight to break the chain. I bought two more - and yes the squirrels broke the chain again. So - if I could I'd reduce my recommendation to 3 star and recommend squirrel free gardens!

I thought it was a great looking feeder and seemed well made. I was WRONG!
When filled with peanuts, or even only half filled, the chain that runs through the feeder (linking the lid) is not strong enough to carry the weight. The links in the chain keep on breaking, have now attepted to reinforce the chain, after three different replacements! The other problem is that the design of the feeder allows the nuts to get wet if raining. This then allows the nuts to go mouldy, which become poisonous. DO NOT BUY.

I had one of these & the birds really didn't like it! The peanuts settled in the base, uneaten & I ended up throwing this away. I have so many birds visiting my garden but somehow this was totally avoided. Have also had the elongated version of this nut feeder with exactly the same results. I've tried numerous other nut feeders with varying success. A good old red net bag of nuts from local supermarket is now my usual choice again- my feathered visitors use those every time!!

I purchased one of these feeders. The peanuts fall straight out. I actually witnessed a bluetit take a whole nut out which is extremely dangerous as birds can choke on whole peanuts. I have written a letter of complaint to Gardman and am waiting for their response. I have also informed the RSPB so hopefully they will warn people against using them. They are rubbish.

Filled this with peanuts but they all fell through the wires. Tried other nuts but all too small and fall straight through. Any suggestions to compensate ??

I thought this looked great and the birds were eating fine from it. Then my husband noticed a Siskin hanging from it, trapped by its leg! We rushed out and it managed to pull free, but it was dead on the lawn a few days later. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS ITEM
