Review

This book is a testament to a life's work in progress: the development of a new calligraphy, typeface, even vocablary of gardening --Gardens Illustrated

Disciples of acclaimed garden designer Luciano Giubbilei's pristine, minimal look would love a copy of The Gardens of Luciano Giubbilei written by his former teacher Andrew Wilson, with glorious photographs by Steven Wooster --Evening Standard

Product Description

Since 1997 Luciano Giubbilei has been creating serenely beautiful gardens in locations on three continents. Giubbilei is known for the understated elegance of his designs, but is constantly evolving his approach, both in response to individual clients and as his ideas develop. His work draws on his Italian heritage, especially the Renaissance gardens of the Villa Gamberaia in Tuscany, and a distinctively classical combination of restraint and opulent materials. This book examines 12 significant gardens from Giubbilei's portfolio. Each project is fully documented, from the preparation of mood boards to final planting and finishing. Sections on site development, nursery production and the sourcing of plants, and the artists and craftsmen with whom Giubbilei works complete the in-depth account of his working methods and sources of inspiration. Fully illustrated with planting plans, documentary images and photographs by Steven Wooster, this is the definitive work on the gardens of an acclaimed designer.

Having seen one of these gardens portrayed in an article in homes and gardens recently, i was in awe of his treatment of the anish kapoor monolith in a sympathetic and beautiful way.
This book proves that it was not a one off success but a style that seems to work in many different settings. The combination of an enlightened narrative and supurb photography makes this book a MUST buy for garden designers or anyone who wishes to see contempory garden design at its best.

I saw Lucianos garden design at Chelsea 2 years ago. It was just brilliant! Lucianos designs are complete class - understated elegance and so stylish! The narrative is interesting and informative and the pictures alone are so inspiring. I have taken elements of his designs and used them in my own garden - the result is really really pleasing and friends say it's like something out of a magazine. I love Luciano's style and this book is an absolute must if you love stylish gardens. Readers beware though - you may be so inspired that you'll need some deep pockets to achieve a similar result. Mine weren't really deep enough, but my garden still looks fab!

since the Chelsea Flower Show awarded Luciano Giubbilei the most coveted award I got interested in his work. This book is simply fantastic and shows in detail the way his "brain" works. IMHO this is a book to buy and keep forever.
