Product Description

Product Description

Ferns, an ancient family of plants, offer so much interest and contribute so much to setting the colour and texture of any border or garden. The variety of fern species available today have made them an integral part of garden design. This book inspires amateur gardeners and enthusiasts to undertake more in-depth projects including using ferns in a mixed border, creating a natural dry-stone habitat, and bringing the Antipodean rainforest to the doorstep. Beautiful artistic impressions of the completed projects and a selection of stunning photographs provide a fascinating insight into what can be achieved by correct planting. The comprehensive A - Z of ferns, listed by botanical names, contains further information on selecting the right plant for a garden scheme.

About the Author

Martin Rickard was awarded the RHS Gold Veitch Medal for his services to horticulture, and has nurtured his fascination with ferns for over 40 years. He held the presidency of the British Pteridological Society from 1997 to 2001, and his fern displays have won 10 Gold Medals at the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show.

There are other books on ferns, but you can't get more up-to-date than this, nor can you argue with the author's vast and highly professional experience and global credentials. If you're a fern freak, there's no better reference and guide.

Ferns have been a passion of mine since I first started Gardening in the serious sense about 20 Years ago.

There is nothing that Martin Rickard does not know about ferns.

To me that phrase "We are not worthy", as in I am not actualy worthy, fits this bible of Greenery.

I am still scratching around in the dark trying to get to grips with the basics of the World of Botanical Latin, whereas Mr Rickard is always an erudite consumate proffesional.

Get this book and you cannot go wrong.

I spent 2 years getting a Diploma in Horticulture and believe me, I still know nothing in comparison to Mr Rickard.

Mr Rickard is one in a long line of dedicated experts who spread their knowledge with an ease us humble students can only dream of.

Got to admit I covet his cast iron (or is it alluminium) bench with affine repetition to die for.

God bless you Sir.
