Review

Adrian Bloom has produced a reference work that should appeal to a wide range of gardeners and encourage at least some sceptics to give conifers a try ... an enjoyable and reassuring read (Gardens Illustrated )

The quality and number of colour photographs, along with its illustrations, make it such a good read, it surpasses most books that I have seen on the subject ... I have no doubt it will become a 'must' for all gardeners particularly conifer specialists, as it is based on real experience from an authority on the subject (Garden )

Homestyle, January 2002

'This book shows how evergreens can be used to enhance gardens of any size throughout the year and its sure to inspire you to grow them.'

Oxford Times, 14th December 2001

'...should certainly persuade doubters to appreciate the diverse attractions of the conifer kingdom'

Gardening Answers, March 2002

'...this is a book no gardener should be without.'

The Garden, March 02

'This book will surely become a classic for all those interested in conifers'

Wildlife and Countryside, April 2006

'this book has established itself as the most authoritative book on wildlife gardening'

The Organic Way, May 2002

'This book deserves to be on every gardener's bookshelf'

Product Description

Adrian Bloom explains how to make the best use of conifers in any garden landscape, large or small, and provides a directory of over 200 of the best cultivars.

First looking closely at their attributes - colour and texture, flowers and cones - Bloom reveals their wide diversity. He describes and illustrates how conifers can be used in the garden, to provide balance and structure, and year-round visual interest and colour - in the form of features, hedges or topiary, planted with heathers, other shrubs and ornamental grasses; or as ground cover; and in different situations such as troughs, screen beds, and rock and alpine gardens. All the practical tips needed for success are provided.
