Plants, illustrations, stories.,
By Lisa Marie Hostick (London, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Garden Wisdom (Hardcover)
Beautifully illustrated, this book wonderfully combines tales of gardening through history and 50s style illustrations to accompany them. So if you want a bit of an insight into the great gardeners thoughts over the centuries, or if you just want an aesthetic pleasure when the rain prevents you from going into your own garden (or probably both) then this is the book for you!

Garden and Art,
This review is from: Garden Wisdom (Hardcover)
Gardening talent meets artistic talent and the result is a charming, very readable book. Leslie Geddes-Brown edits a collection of writings by fellow gardeners; the compilation is illustrated with the stylised flower prints typical of Angie Lewin. There is something here to guide the reader through every aspect of gardening from a short treatise on lettuces, written by John Gerard in 1613, to choosing garden tools by Clarissa Dickson-Wright and Johnny Scott, via a wide range of sibjects, personalities and opinions. Ideal to keep by your bed - read a section each night and then return to the beginning. The illustrations. reminiscent of a 50's style as is the book itself, delight and enhance, making this a perfect present for anyone interested in gardens.
