This book is for those who don't want to go in for a complete makeover of their garden. I was quite despondent about my old and overgrown space. All the programmes on telly show you how to make your garden look fabulous if you have access to 20 people and/or loads of money. Hessayon shows you how to go about reforming your patch. He clearly identifies the problems, breaking them down into well defined tasks that you can prioritise and approach at the speed you want. His instructions are clear and helpful. I was surprised how easy it was to use the book and be inspired to go into the garden and tackle an issue. My garden no longer feels like an overwhelming problem. I'm sure there are books that cover making paths or creating ponds in greater detail, however if you want to know how to reinvigorate a border, deal with troublesome trees or shrubs or give your rockery new vibrancy then I can recommend this book.

I bought this when I lost the will to live whilst looking at our overgrown garden. It gave me the hope to carry on and the garden is now my pride and joy. I still refer to it regularly (especially the 'when to prune and how' section.
