Product Description

* Having built a reputation as arranger for legendary disco figures CERRONE and ALEX COSTANDINOS, THE GARDEN OF LOVE was Don Ray's first album as a solo artist.

* In addition to the top 50 US Pop hit single GOT TO HAVE LOVING, THE GARDEN OF LOVE also featured the later classic STANDING IN THE RAIN. The album was a smash hit with US Disco fans, reaching #4 on the Disco chart.

If you're expecting a Cerrone production that mirrors the genius sound of his own albums, think again. Got To Have Loving and Standing In The Rain are cult classics that simply do not sound dated on a dance floor today. Thankfully the rest of the album holds up and is a great listen all the way. The remastering (by Nick Robbins) is simply amazing and the package looks beautiful with truly interesting notes. Bravo!

Reminisce of the days of dancing in French night clubs back in the 70's. Great to hear the tunes again.

2 of 5 people found the following review helpful By Pieter Uys HALL OF FAMETOP 1000 REVIEWER on 26 Dec. 2004
Format: Audio CD
The opener Got To Have Loving is a major classic, a tour de force of imaginative synth textures, rhythmic variation and hypnotic girl vocals framing Don Ray's powerful voice and bitter lyrics. The uptempo Body And Soul has a Latin-American rhythmic feel while Midnight Madness is pure 70's disco in the vein of KC and the Sunshine Band or The Ritchie Family. The influence of Eurodisco musician and producer Cerrone is evident throughout, especially on Standing In The Rain with its soaring synthesizer. The title track is unremarkable mid-tempo disco, although it has some nice flutes and other effects. Garden of Love is an interesting album from the disco era and contains one solid gold must-have track in the form of Got To Have Loving.

Don Ray -- A Disco God 30 April 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
The musical genius of Don Ray is timeless and moving! The track "Got to Have Loving" absolutely stuns the senses, with Ray's boldly imaginative mastery of percussions, and waves of shocking style segues. Anyone who thinks The BeeGees or KC & The Sunshine Band purely defined the Disco era, or that the music lacked substance, most definitely owes it to themselves to open their minds (and ears) to the magic of Don Ray!

Don Ray...The Garden of Love... 6 July 2012
By D. S. HARDEN - Published on Amazon.com

Not knowing who this gentleman was, and not being aware of his music, "Got to Have Loving" was yet
another cut that I stumbled into on XM-Radio. I purchased the disc on Amazon, and was pleasantly
surprised! I enjoyed the whole disc! Good quality tunes throughout!

Recommended!

Listing is as follows:

1. Got to Have Loving (8:19) [Signature song! Perfect length!]
2. Body and Soul (04:24)
3. Midnight Madness (05:43)
4. Standing in the Rain (06:37)
5. Garden of Love (04:40) [Title Song! Great track!]
6. My Desire (07:31)

Put this CD in your player, it'll be over before you know it! Great for the price!

I rate "Don Ray...The Garden of Love..."...Five stars! Classic Dance Music from the Late 70's

The only album from Don Ray (with a significant input by Cerrone)

leaves you wanting more.Even though it's from the late 70's it still sounds fresh.

The Garden of Love 2 May 2009
By Nag - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Here's another disco classic. This CD, like "Cerrone 3 Supernature", has been resurrected from the original tapes. I can detect no sound diference from the original vinyl recording....except that there are no pops or clicks.
Don Ray, although not as popular as Cerrone, did collabrate with Cerrone to produce some of the music on this CD. The track "Garden of Love" is perhasp the best song of all, (as far as I'm concerned), and it was worth it for me to purchase this CD just for that track.
