I purchased this to flatten out the bumps and humps that tend to appear in my lawn over winter so that the grass is easier to cut (no more scalping of the earth!) as we head into spring.
Intending to fill it with sand rather than water - for extra weight - upon its arrival I found that in order to fill it you need to remove a short threaded bolt from the side of the steel drum, leaving a hole about 15mm in diameter. Whilst this is fine should you intend to fill it with water using a hose, you can imagine how much fun it was trying to get about 4 sacks of sharp sand through such a tiny hole. Obviously I should have used fine, DRY sand like you find on some beaches but I didn't have any. I ended up making a funnel out of the handle of a 2-litre plastic milk bottle and using the neck of the bottle as a scoop to feed the funnel. By shaking the funnel vigorously as I dribbled in the sand I gradually filled it - it took about an hour and a half.
Anyway, once filled it is heavy enough and does seem to be gradually flattening things out. The tubular steel frame is not the most sturdy - it grumbles and creaks - but it should probably last a few years with careful use and so long as it is kept in the shed rather than out in the elements. Foam handle is comfortable enough.

Whats not to like? Easy to assemble, heavy enough filled with water to do the job. Price reasonable, (bit irritated by the loaded postal charges to Belfast, I can never understand why postal charges from Belfast to England are the same as prices within N.Ireland yet much higher going the other way?)Still I should be used to it by now. The roller is nice and small, compact, well made and does the job.
