I own 6 or 7 books in the 'Expert' series, so I wasn't sure whether to order this book as `Vegetable Expert' already contains some cooking information, but I took a risk and it paid off. When the book arrived it was a lot thicker than I expected - just less than twice the thickness of my other Expert books. So it's good value for money. There's also lots, lots more info in the book about cooking and preparing fruit and veg than there is in `Vegetable Expert'. And there's loads of recipes too. I can see myself using this book when I return home from the allotment with a marrow or a punnet of gooseberries which I don't know what to do with. It's in the usual Expert style, with things listed alphabetically. There's plenty of traditional, practical recipes as well as new things to try. I'm really pleased with it. It's really good value for money and well researched. E.g for rhubarb you get the following recipes: poached, baked, caramelised, rhubarb fool, compote, plate pie, crumble, steamed rhubarb pudding, rhubarb and custard tart, rhubarb and strawberry meringues, rhubarb betty, rhubarb trifle, and rhubarb breakfast! There's a jam and pickle section, a weed section, a herb section, an ornamentals section, and a large fruit section. I love it.

I have several of the Garden Expert range books and this book, like the others, is just as great! Informative, inspiring and packed full of useful advice for the fruit and vegetable grower AND the chef(You might be both but in our household I'm the grower and my husband is the chef).Fab recipes for food and drink to try and great hints and tips to follow all in that easy to read Garden Expert style. A must for any chef and/or grow your own-er. Covers a good selection of fruit and vegetables. I particularly liked the "Weeds" chapter which gave lots of food/drink ideas on what to do with those, sometimes annoying, wildflowers that might pop up in your garden. I'll be trying out loads of the recipe ideas and enjoying this book for many years!!

I Love Gardening the other half the Kitchen, perfect symbiotic relationship, this book has just made both our lives a wee bitty easier with what to grow for maximum mouth watering results..I am now going out to upgrade our Herb Garden as I have a couple of Recepies I would like to try... A good buy this book, a true cookery book from the Farmers Market...

At last, I have a book that is so helpful in everyway,
oderly,sensible and pratical.
Especially in growing and storing of all vegetables and fruits.
Beside above, many time I find I have surplus of vegetables.
i.e Broccoli- I always either boiling or steaming it,now I can
look into this book, and find many interesting ways to make use of it.
The excitment does not stop there, now I can carry on with all other
veg.. and fruits.
So simple to follow, it is all alphabetical order.
It is superb!!!

We're about to enter that wonderful time of the year when our plots and gardens really start to produce big time and we look towards our cookbooks for inspiration for getting the most out of our crops, particularly those gluts. Whilst this book is a little more unusual to its companions in the Expert stable, the style and layout are in the same tradition and is designed to be a companion to the Vegetable and Herb, Fruit and Greenhouse Expert volumes.

There's over 680 recipes to tempt you, arranged broadly into Vegetable and Fruit sections with a brief nod towards Herbs, Ornamentals and Weeds too. There's advice on storage, preserving and good basic recipes for jams, chutneys and other preserves. None of the recipes are complicated, so it's ideal for someone in the Can't Cook Won't Cook mould, especially as there's also No Cooking Required and Basic Cooking information for each vegetable and fruit featured. It reminds me of the first cookbooks I acquired when I first left home, but is much more comprehensive.

There's a retro feel to this book, mainly because of the Expert's usual style and you won't find a picture for each recipe featured. However, I don't think that detracts from the book at all, especially as many of the recipes will already be familiar dishes to most people.

A good, basic cookbook, at a decent price and which encourages the use of fresh, seasonal produce.

This book is really excellent. I love the alpabetic order and the fact that there's lots of pictures of both the recipes and the produce - especially for the more unusual specimens which sometimes appear in our weekly vegetable box (kohlrabi being a prime example...!). The recipes are clear and concise and the whole book is as well researched and well laid out as all the Expert series. However, as another reviewer pointed out, this book is twice as thick as many of the others in the series thus offering superb value for money - especially at Amazon prices. We're starting to grow our own veg this year and this book will be a real boon. I'd say order this - you won't be disappointed.

The latest in the expert series (I have nearly all the books) and again upto the normal excellent standard. It gives ideas and tips how to store and cook the veg you have grown.
An excellent book for people with allotments or new to veg gardening and would also make a lovely present for someone.
