Product Description

Product Description

Children of all ages can have hours of fun digging and making sandcastles until their hearts are content.
This wonderful wooden sandpit has a traditional hexagonal design. The sandpit comes flat packed and is easy to build simply slotting together. The top of the sand box features a sturdy lip that serves as a great seat for little ones while they play. The sandbox is 1.5m across and is 26cm deep. It comes with a geo-textile underlay that you lay on the ground underneath the sand pit and is held in place by the sandpit and the sand. The underlay allows water to pass through the sand and yet stops garden weeds from sprouting. The sand should be kept a little damp so that it is easy to build into sand castles etc.
When not in use the sandbox comes with a PE cover that keeps the worst of the weather and debris from getting into the sand play area.
Requires approximately 6 to 8 x 25kg bags of sand to make the sandpit ready for play.

Manufacturer's Description

Children of all ages can have hours of fun digging and making sandcastles to their hearts' content. Measuring 1.5 metres across, the sandbox is generous in size and comes with a geo-textile underlay and a tarpaulin protective cover.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sandpit with no base 13 Sep 2008
Verified Purchase
Looks good and my kids love it but this 4-5 foot hexagonal sandpit does not have a base- it comes with a sheet which you are supposed to rest it on- but inside you are supposed to put sand and that escapes under the walls

mine now has a base but only because i bought some wood.......and a jigsaw and made one- then screwed it into the walls from the bottom up, so to speak

a bit more than i was bargaining for to be honest

This sandpit has been a great hit with my son. It is a very good size and is really sturdy.
It took about 10 bags of sand to fill it just over half way (you don't need anymore than that)
The plastic cover fits well but you will need to put something under it like a pole so it makes a tent shape so rain does not pool on top.

Bought for 4yo's birthday. He LOVES it. But he's not the most discerning of toddlers and I'm less easily impressed.

The facts are:

It's a sandpit, it fits together well enough, it's easy to construct and the instructions are clear. All the necessary parts were included (you'll need a phillips screwdriver), it was packaged well and there was no stress in building this; two sets of hands managed it in 15 minutes. When constructed, it's a reasonable size and requires about 150-180kg of sand to adequately fill it.

Still, however functional it is, for the price this is not an impressive product. I would say that this is a 40 max purchase. Why?

- The wood is of a very basic quality. Not damaged or sub-standard, just utterly basic. It has rough edges, is not precisely cut and has many knots, meaning a couple of the screws don't catch.

- The horizontal rows have slats, slotting together well enough but with no secure fix. The ledge is the only part of the item that is firmly attached (you screw it into the top slats). This may be practically helpful in terms of taking the pit apart quickly and storing it easily but if your children are rough or overly curious I imagine it won't take much force to pull apart.

The problem is exacerbated because there is no solid base, just a thin porous fabric to allow water to drain. Again, this is not necessarily a problem in itself, but it also means that once the sand is in you won't be re-locating the pit easily. I anticipate this fabric getting pretty grim underneath and needing replacing.

The biggest disappointment (although not a surprise based on other reviews) is that it comes with a pretty basic tarpaulin cover which is ill fitting and does not adequately protect from the rain.

I was looking for a sandpit for my Grandson when I came across this one. It is really good value for money and made really well. It was easily put together and also a good size for him and his friends to play in.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice looking sandpit 29 Mar 2013

Visually attractive sandpit. Easy enough to put together. There are a few problems with the design - it's not easy to move once built without it falling apart, the ground sheet is disappointing and should be nailed to the bottom to prevent movement.

Looks lovely once built and positioned and have found the draw string cover to be fine too. Good purchase overall.

This is a great shaped sandpit and much larger than anticipated but perfect for a couple of kids to play happily side by side without treading on one another. It does require many more bags of sand to fill than expected but should last for years.

overall a good sturdy sand pit, however the ground sheet is too small. It does require about 250kg of sand to half fill it which unless you look around can cost a lot of money.
