    I bought the Geoff Hamilton's 3D Garden Designer Deluxe thinking that it might be of use for my class, especially as it was supposed to be a new version. However, now I've tried it out, it looks to me that this is the same or very similar to Geoff Hamilton's Double Garden Pack which was justifiably slated by reviewers earlier, but now to make out it's something new, it has a book thrown in.
    The graphics are simply awful and I could not use this CD to design a garden. Throughout, messages came up saying "This program has performed an illegal operation and will shut down" or "The database cannot be opened. It may be locked by another process or may be corrupted".
    It was not easy to use and eventually I gave up and I will not be using it again. I will not be recommending this CD to my class or anyone else.
    I liked the plant descriptions in the Plant Encyclopeadia and that I could add plants to the list but that was about all this CD does.
    Basically a dull, laborious and uninspiring CD that's limited to one photograph per plant, which is a shame for identifying plants and has little plant care advise. It was quite easy at finding plants. However, the lack of additional functions means it has little practical use.
    I suggest buying the CD on its own rather than this so called Gift Pack.
    Gardening Book - A nice little book though nothing to do with the CD. This softened my disappointment with the new garden Design version 3 CD, but it was a garden design CD I was hoping to buy, not another book.
    Conclusion - Don't be fooled by the cover. Poorly written software, difficult and confusing to use. Dull at best and lacking much practical functions compared to other CD's. Disappointing!

    I ran the 3D Garden Designer on XP and had one loading configuration blip which it sorted out and then completed the loading process ok. So maybe greenfingers was trying to run it on a lower spec computer.
    On the whole I found the package very good and simple to use. It is easy to select, introduce and move plants and other features around within your garden layout.
    The 3D graphics aren't great; rather pixelated, but they are sufficient to give you a good idea of how your garden could look at different times of the year. The Plant Encyclopedia CD-Rom is very comprehensive and informative allowing you to choose the plants most suitable for your particular garden.The Gardening Handbook finishes off the set nicely and is great to flick through to get a few extra ideas and tips once you've had enough of looking at the computer screen.
    In conclusion I'd have to say that for the price this pack is very good value for money
