With a new house and a bare plot of land like a blank canvas I was at a loss where to start. This super book has fired my imagination. From formal to family gardens, whatever shape your plot you'll find a wealth of ideas, planting plans, solutions for difficult terrain and the pros and cons of various building materials.I particularly enjoyed the last chapter with designs for every shape of garden including easy maintenance, formal, child friendly and plant lovers.

A very handy book to help you design your own garden. Full of layout plans and advice on plants and landscaping, etc. Quite realistic and deals with real gardens — it doesn't assume that you own Wakehurst Place. I have just moved into a house with quite a large garden that is no more than a bit of paving and lots of grass. I purchased several books on garden design and this is one of two which I have found most useful.
