Book Description

6 July 2010 Gantz (Book 11)
The blue phase is here! Gantz creator Oku Hiroya seems to have based his popular Gantz series on a sort of season-based cycle, and now that we're entering the second set of ten books, we're all blue here at Dark Horse as Hiroya boldly takes us into the increasingly scary world of Gantz. So now Kei's been dealing with a handsome schoolmate who seems obsessed with all things Gantz, and in Volume 11, we'll find out how frightfully obsessed this guy is. It's a whole new world of Gantz's alien urban warfare, and things are certainly not settling into any kind of comfort. Be ready for a dizzying new volume of Gantz!

Gantz is an survival/psychological/horror story written by Hiroya Oku. The story takes place when a young Japanese high school student (Kei Kurono) dies in a subway train accident and falls into an apartment (amongst others who have died) with a giant black ball in the middle (Gantz). Gantz then tells them to go on hunts to kill aliens almost like a game. The players must risk their lives in these hunts in order to earn their freedom. When they come back from a mission they receive a point score which then determines [SPOILER ALERT] <<whether or not they upgrade their weapons, bring someone who has died back or go home free and live their lives>>.

Gantz is one of the best and the first manga series I have ever read and is easily a 10/10. There are in depth views on the characters everyone more interesting then the last and traumatising events that can literally give you nightmares. So many questions are raised and the answers are far from what you would expect. Though the series does take a while to kick off the readers who stay with it will be very satisfied with the plot twists and mysteries of the black ball. Prolonged for the anime the manga series continues after the third mission and becomes more twisted as it progresses. I would recommend this book to anyone whos a fan of blood and gore, horror, hentai, drama and drugs and guns. The art cover is sleek and well balanced in colour and dead pages included well developed mini posters. Also at the end of every novel are extras on the making of gantz, comps and exclusive interviews with the author.

The first part of the blue phase (#11) [spoiler alert] <>. New solid characters are introduced and even some paranormal abilities take place. This novel is a great way to kick of the second phase of gantz. Highly recommended read and a good way to get into manga novels.
