A Book To Avoid ! 22 Jun 2005
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
As an experienced trainer of several years I thought I'd buy a book to give me some fresh ideas for team buiding games: after looking at what was on offer I thought this one would be ideal. How wrong I was. This book is absolute garbage - the "games" mainly consist of getting people to make lists or simply asking people questions and then facilitating discussion around the answers. The author doesn't seem to realise that facilitation is a skill in itself and anyone who is not experienced in this will quickly get themselves (and their group) into real trouble. One gem of a suggested "team game" is to " ... pick a particularly high point and give the trainee group your loud & enthusiastic "EEEE-YESSS" as you clench your fist. As training continues repeat the gesture as things please you, and encourage trainees to do the same" !?!?!? - Priceless ! The book is also aimed squarely at the USA market with appropriate language and examples. I don't know what the author's idea of a team game is but I hardly think that getting your "trainees" to make a name badge so that others can see their name (yes, it's as simple as that) qualifies. In my experience a team game should be interesting, easy to grasp, relevant, have a desired learning objective as an outcome ... and fun. The suggestions in this book are pathetic and are not based on sound learning & developmental theory. I've wasted my money ... please don't waste yours !

Silly, simplistic, stay away 2 Oct 2006
By MythBuster DownUnder - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I expected a lot from this book, yet ended up disappointed. Perhaps I expected too much, but the great majority of games strike me as either silly or simplistic. A few are also very ethno-centric with some American songs to be sung, perhaps a thing to do in the States, but try that in other countries ... Maybe that's why the author calles them "games" instead of (meaningful) exercises or training activities ...

Dont waste your time 8 Feb 2011
By Dustin M. Smith - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is full of lame games that unthinking bosses use to torture their employees. But if you're looking for a bunch of eye rollers, you found the right book
