I found it sad that there never was a review for this, but i have to say now that this is amazing work. Gamera 2 has an AMAZING score by Kou Ootani. Yes, it is a monster/kaiju film but that dont mean that this will be a bad soundtrack. This is one of the best japanese monster movie soundtrack you can get. There are three recent Gamera films and i would say that this is the best of the trio. Kou Ootani did the other two and I would also highly recommend them as well. He also did the Gundam Wing soundtrack which is very very good as well. Actually, the music for Gamera 2 sounds ALOT like the Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz score that he did. The film Gamera 2: Advent of Legion is a dark film and (Opening- Track 1) really shows that. The high pitched violins and all the surrounding music create the prefect atmosphere. Pretty creepy stuff. The track continues to do this throught the rest of it. Then (Main Title-Track 2) is more milataristic and sounds great! One of the best Main Titles Ive heard. (Unidentified Life Form-Track 7) reprises the music we heard in track one and it sounds beautiful here. (Operation BLAST-Track 14) is another milataristic theme and it reappears on the cd a few times. Sounds very good. (Look Up!-Track 19) is another great theme sounding the appearance of Gamera as he faces the swarm of Legion. This by far is a great track on the cd by far and is one of the best Kou has written. (Refugees-Track 26) is alot like Track 11, but it sound more powerful. (The Two Monsters Clash-Track 27) is a great battle theme as Gamera fight the mother Legion which is then followed buy the slower (Fight To The Death-28) which is acompanied by some organs. Then comes the military music in (Tank Brigade In Motion-Track 32) which is really good. (Preparing To Launch Attack-Track 34) is very good track with some great music. (Tank Brigade In Motion 2-Track 35) was used alot in the Gamera 2 trailers and is awsome. (Anti-air craft fire-Track 39) is a great battle theme and Gamera goes to fight Legion for the final time and it works great with the visuals of the film, (which is a really good movie to pick up). This cue really shows that Kou is very good at creating action pieces. No more kiddie Gamera music from the 70s anymore thats 4 sure. Then the next tracks continue as Gamera and Legion duke it out. These are great as well, especially (The Last Line Of Defense-Track 42) cue. Finally the music quiets down as (The Final Blow-Track 43) plays a Gamera ends the battle. Then comes the last cue (Ending-Track 44) which is just great. The score ends with a Japanese pop song by Ulfuls, which is a decent song. I would get the Gamera 3 score for a great ending track, sung by Mouichido Hoshii. Overall the score for Gamera 2 is a killer and I would strongly recommend it if you like Kaiju films in general or are a big fan of Gamera (FWI big Gamera junkie right here).
