It's a nice looking puzzle when completed. The base layer is nicely detailed standard jigsaw puzzle. It's quite difficult, but looks great. The second layer is foam, and covers the entire landmass. It's pretty easy to put together, and I was a bit disappointed by this layer, as I thought it would be topographical, but it isn't - it's just a constant height foam layer that covers all the land. Finally, you add in the castles - the major areas, like Winterfell, King's Landing, Riverrun, etc. are nicely detailed (though cheap plastic), while many other smaller towns and forts are represented by much simpler (and uniform) pieces. It does look very nice, though I'm only going to glue and display the bottom layer, which is the best looking part, in my opinion.
