I accidentally landed on the US Amazon site whilst looking for a book of game programming for my nephew. The reviews there (over 60 i think) were much more informative and extremely positive, actually. Although some were dated 2004, so probably for the previous editions. Hope this helps and the five star rating i've given is due to most of the American reviews being 5 stars (40).

I have looked through quite a bit of the book, and it looks clear, careful and thoughtfully planned. I know a little programming and nothing about games, and this looks like it would work even if I didn't know programming.

I am a Game programmer & Designer and this is for all teenagers and also for 19+ as it covers all the basic things.
The book covers only Blitz3D but not Darkbasic nor c++, it also doesn't cover how to write a full 3D game which is not neccesary yet!

If you're totally new at programmeing environtment then its a great way of starting.
In my opinion the author used all crap non-understanding language to explain his aim also uses some good ones, its comparinson!
Also on the other hand I prefer DArkbasic pro because it uses more understanding methods. No further comments on that subject!
OK, to conclude this, author uses some screenshots for previews also he doesn't explain where the code is coming from and going for! so it presonal opinion :).
