Product Description

Barry Forshaw

Is it for real? Is The Game by Neill Strauss an assiduously detailed, highly entertaining exposé of a fascinating secret society -- the international community of pickup artists who have refined their talents for getting women into bed to the nth degree? Or is it an extremely funny hoax? Early drafts of the book had people wondering, and men in particular speculated if the book would deliver some valuable ‘how to’ tips as an aid to entering a sexual wonderland. In fact, it doesn't really matter whether you take the basic premise seriously or not: Strauss’ wonderfully diverting book delivers great entertainment whatever your point of view.

According to Strauss, the clandestine society of men he describes here take wagers in clubs and bars throughout the Western world over just who can chalk up the most Casanova-like quantities of pickups and seductions. But this isn't merely for the thrill of an army of sexual conquests -- all of this is coded and organised according to an almost military-style ritual, with an elaborate series of rules and regulations that the participants rigorously follow. Strauss went undercover in this glamorous world, and learned the secrets of these top-drawer seducers. But, for him, there was a useful corollary affect: Strauss found himself transformed from a nerdish, unconfident journalist into a silver-tongued Lothario, quite the equal of many of the ladykilling males he had been enjoying the company of. For him, the ultimate accolade was being noted The World's Number One Pickup Artist -- and then he made the mistake of setting his sights on a woman who could give every bit as good as she got.

The world of excess presented here is not one most of us move in, but (if the truth were told) it has its irresistible attractions. Strauss wheels in such celebrities as Tom Cruise and Courtney Love, and this unblushing peek into a secret world where sex and seduction are treated with cool scientific detachment is mesmerisingly readable. --Barry Forshaw --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insight into the game of seduction., 24 Jul 2007
This review is from: The Game (Paperback)
The set up is atypical: A bloke goes undercover into a secret society (reminds me of fight club, actually) in order to see how these other blokes get women. Well, that's the gist of it and that's what the author does. What follows is his expolits into this world and how he plays "the game". Not bad in that it is set in real life situtations, but I don't know if I'd be willing to go to these lengths. However, it's a great, quick read most blokes will love. I also liked another book on real seduction called "Get Laid Now! The Man's Guide to Picking Up Women and Casual Sex" for the tips.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book I've read recently, 22 Mar 2006
By Stephen Wallace (Bristol, UK) - See all my reviews
This book is specifically aimed at men seducing women. If all you want is sex as a way to keep score, it can help. Sure there are some little-known secrets to learn about how to start a conversation, how to move it along until she’s yours. It's more or less a numbers game. This book is one description of a set of techniques that will help improve your numbers.

It gives a much well rounded view of the community for those who are in it and don't know much about it, from Strauss’s perspective. For those who aren't in the community, I think this book would be a very exciting story that they can relate to. It’s definately a must read for men who want to be more successful in seducing women, but don't know where to start. Confience, knowledge and being one step further in “the game” is of paramout importance. Since everything has to end in bed having first class sexual abilities is also important. That’s why a great pair is “Scientiifcally guaranteed ultimate sex”. Neil tells you step by step how to attract, seduce and get laid while Alan Ritz reveals you how to leave her breathless. It’s very possible to become very good at the art and science of seducing and satisfying women, just as it's possible to improve at playing the guitar or dancing Tango. Along with thoroughly entertaining you, this book gives you the sense that practicing what the characters preach (analyzing social situations and adjusting your behavior accordingly for desired outcomes) will help you gain confidence in front of others and eventually enable you to enthrall them up to the desired hot finish.

3.0 out of 5 stars this has to be taken with a pince of salt, 22 Sep 2005
By A Customer
i think the average guy that reads this book will think "wowwww!! now i can pull girls like style using these techniques! YES!" however the problem with this idea is that the average reader will not be spending two years of his life with MYSTERY who is renowned as being the worlds greatest pick up guru.in actual fact style has been posting on the seduction boards since 2001 so i think the idea that he had only been in the game for 2 years is nonsense, its more like 4-5 years. So i think in the book neils abilitys before he entered the community were underestimated and his many many failures have been skipped in order to increase th "wow factor" of the story. its important to realise that niel strauss already had a high status career with many A list connections. He was living in a huge mansion in LA a la jucuzzi hot tub etc where the monthly rent was about 15000 dollars a month between about 5 of them! It was the old rat packs mansion. if you could n t pull in these circumstances i think you should consider suicide! Plus if you look at him he s not ugly and is already stylish. Hes not some completely introverted ugly computer geek . Also he had the time and resources to be out every night at expensive and exclusive bars on sunset stip. Also when hes transitioning from AFC to PUA he has A LOT of very deep hypnosis with experts to get over his own insecurities most people will skip this part and try to use his techniques. In addition Also i think mysterys method is good and will work if done effectively, HOWEVER in my opinion the average guy in the street won t have the motivation, dedication, balls and lack of fear of failure/ rejection and self belief in order to get good results. Don t forget that mystery himself is a highly skilled illusionist who has been offered TV deals and suchlike. If you can show girls in a bar some amazing magic trick whilst being charming she s going to think youre pretty interesting. The average guy has nt been practicing magic since they were a kid.
Plus mystery makes about $25000 A WEEK from his bootcamps.

all in all i think its a great read however i think the potential for this to translate into quick results with women has been exagerrated to sell more product, and their also making it into a film. FILM+ BOOK = NIEL STRAUSS + MYSTERY $$$$!
