Product Description

Product Description

Two of the best food writers working today tackle a subject that has been in need of a definitive and fresh guide for many years. "Game: The Cookbook" features game in all its forms - furred, feathered and fish - and will surely establish itself as the new benchmark on the subject. In this book, the authors share a knowledge on game cooking that is unrivalled in print form. They show how game offers many wonderful and affordable choices for the home cook and just how easy it is to source, prepare and cook - something that precious few people seem to realise. They set out to completely demystify their subject and offer expert advice on how to joint, prepare, cook and enjoy every possible aspect of the foods that are hunted from the lands, skies and waters of Britain. Written with extreme clarity, insight and passion, and divided into chapters on 'four legs', 'two legs' and 'no legs', this book really does explore every possible part of the world of game that you could ever wish to know. It is a true tour de force from a writing team at the height of their powers. Fully illustrated throughout, Jason Lowe's stunning photography is fittingly all-encompassing and informative.

About the Author

Tom Norrington-Davies and Trish Hilferty are two of the most highly respected chefs working in London today, with careers which take in such legendary places as The Eagle, The Fox and currently Great Queen Street and The Anchor and Hope. They have also contributed significantly to a canon of the more enlightened, creative and serious food writing of our times; via columns and articles, in broadsheets and magazines, but perhaps most impressively of all through their highly-praised and award-winning books, such as Tom's Just Like Mother Used to Make (Cassell) and Trish's Gastropub Classics and Fish and Chips (both Absolute Press).

lovely cookbook 18 Jan 2010
Format:Hardcover
i have to give this 5 stars because of how much game this book covers and that also the authors really do love promoting the eating of game. In fairness some of the recipes are hard to cook, but that is not my the books fault for my failures as a chef! :)

If you love to hunt, fish or just eat and cook game then i would recommend this book.

Game: A Cookery Book 14 Mar 2010
Format:Hardcover
This is an excellent book with good photographs. There is something here for the beginner in game cooking and also the veteran. It is well laid out and the game is sensibly grouped into sections.

This book already looks destined to become a classic. Not only is it comprehensive, covering every form of feathered, furred and scaled game you could wish for; but it is approachable (something which cannot be said for so many of the stuffy books out there on this subject). The authors present each species of two-, four- and no-legged game very clearly indeed, with basic instuctions on how to joint, prepare and cook and then myriad workings into more than 100 fantastic recipes. The recipes are simple and concise and the vast majority don't require bags of exotic ingredients because the main star here is the game itself. The joy of having two authors who so clearly know what they're talking about as your guide is complemented by a very cleanly designed format and some breathtakingly good photographs. So, this is a book for anyone who loves game or wishes to better understand it and, I dare say, a book for all who thought they didn't need another book on game, because this one surely surpasses the lot. Highly recommended.
