Product Description

Product Description

Toddlers now become much more curious and adventurous and love to sort, hide and stack things. They recognise colour and love familiar sounds; high tones are most readily heard. A process of learning and doing develops, and babies learn to name things, to sort things and put things away. They will follow your example and it will not be long before they can do it by themselves! This strong lockable box comes with two sets of three-dimensional sorting blocks for hours of shape and colour matching activity.

I hunted this toy out for my grandaughters first birthday after using it all the time for teaching pre-school children twenty years ago. Unlike most sorters you cannot put the wrong shape in the wrong hole and it doesn't matter much about the angle the shape is posted at. Some sorters you can try the right shape in the right hole but at the wrong angle and it won't go in, which is confusing, so it is ideal for learning to match shapes and colours by trial and error. The key adds another level of play too, little fiddle fingers learn to put it in and turn it to retrieve the shapes. I just wish it was easier to find by googling as until I finally remembered its' name I couldn't find it anywhere.

My daughter (15 months) is forever playing with keys, locks and lockers, so we've been on the hunt for a locking toy. This toy is perfect, the key comes out but is attached with a sturdy little (totally safe) string. So we've had lots of fun fitting the key and the locking and unlocking the block.
Additionally the shape sorted had a cube, triangular pyramid and Sphere rather then prisms which is really nice.
Lastly the added bonus with this toy is it's now working as my daughter's special keepsake box, everything "important" gets hidden in the box! It's adorable.
We love this toy and will probably be buying a few more for friends.

Rarely have I been so pleased with any product bought on line, but this Ambi Toys Lock-a-Block is the best ever. How could they have known how to design and build such a perfect toy for a baby of 1 year and over?

From the solid, chunky design to the bold colours. From the wonderful key action in the door - all babies just love keys - to the rounded shaped blocks. Even the holes in the box are properly lined in soft plastic.

It is my Grand-daughter's favourite toy of all and she knows the words 'key' and 'door' and 'blocks' at 1 year and a bit. Well done Ambi and Amazon and 'My Wendy House' for quick delivery and fair postage.

Tim in Dublin.

This was perfect for my 18 month old as he could actually do it without getting too frustrated, as some shape sorters are very complicated. Nice feature is that the shapes are three dimentional so it always fits

Good quality, sturdy shape sorter. As another review mentions, you can only fit the correct shape in the correct hole, unlike other shape sorters I've seen where any shape will fit in any hole! Nice bright colours. The fact it has a key to lock the door is great as it makes it difficult for our baby to cheat (she has another shape sorter in the form of a cookie jar and cheats by just taking the lid off and putting the shapes in the top rather than through the correct holes!). The colours of the shapes also co-ordinate with the colour of the hole so you can also teach colours and shapes. Thankfully there are no distracting noises and lights on this, so baby can focus on the task of matching shapes/colours.

My daughter loves this shape sorter, she has been far less interested with other similar products but this one is designed in a way to make it easy to work out which shapes go in which holes. They are colour coded, the box and the shapes have nice smooth corners and are pleasingly tactile. The key and lock is also a great additional feature and she likes to put other shapes in the box and try to lock them away. Great product.

My almost 12 month old daughter gets on well with this shape sorter. She still hasnt figured out how to turn the key to unlock the door but when unlocked loves opening and closing the door to get to and put away the shapes. I like how there is still more to learn from it as she gets older.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
This is a modern update of every babies favourite toy - a block you show shapes into. It's sturdy and well-made and lots of fun for babies to play with.

The shapes are the main difference to the older version of the toy we're all used to, as now they're 3 dimensional objects.

There's a big chunky key which is used to open the door and it makes a rather annoying (for parent) but satisfying (for baby) clicking sound when turned.
