Product Description

Ian Woolridge in Daily Mail, 14 May 2003

An enthralling book about a wild adventurer, a courageous soldier, a politician [and] a statesman. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Alan Judd in Weekend Telegraph, May 2003

...the story was both uplifting and instructive, well-researched and written with infectious, but not uncritical, enthusiasm. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Galloper Jack - an amazing man and a cracking read, 23 Jun 2003
By E. Wilmott "Eamonn Wilmott" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Galloper Jack (Hardcover)
I found Galloper Jack to be a remarkable book. The story is all "boys own" stuff and you can't help but be moved and humbled by the life of Jack Seely. Anyone with an interest in history will find it important reading, he was a man of his times, and lived life right in the thick of most of the key events of his day. Seely is flawed and magnificent making him all the more believable (which is important as his life is so extraordinary that it can be sometimes difficult to believe any one person could have led or indeed survived it).
Its very well written and clips along at a terrific pace. The author his grandson, Brough Scott, is pretty tough on the old boy and holds him to the highest standards. I was saddened at the end of the book, both because its always hard to finish a really good read and also because one can't help but think that men like Jack Seely aren't around anymore.
