4.0 out of 5 stars An intruiging start... 11 July 2004
By Jane Aland VINE™ VOICE
This is a cracking start to the new spin-off Doctor Who audio series, featuring the return of principal players Romana (Lalla Ward), K-9 (John Leeson) and Leela (Louise Jameson). All slip back into their roles comfortably, though with its high political intrigue this first chapter is very much Romana's piece. It's a complex and entertaining plot concerning a planet of time 'refugees', a (possibly non-existent) weapon and political infighting between Gallifrey and her new time-active allies. A thought-provoking piece with some nice mirroring of real world subjects, and good performances from nearly all the cast. A great hook to the new series, but be warned: this is only chapter 1 of 4, and after this you'll want to find out what happens next...

5.0 out of 5 stars At the heart of Gallifrey; the Time Lords 11 Dec 2011

This is the first of the series of Gallifrey stories which are set in the Doctor Who universe, although the Doctor never appears in them. The stories revolve around the politicla machinations that take place among and around the Time Lords on Gallifrey - the Celestial Investigation Agency, Braxiatel, and Lord President Romana. Leela and K9 are also present, Leela having been married to Andred and living on Gallifrey for some years.

When this first story starts, Andred has disappeared and Leela is attempting to go and live among the Outsiders on Gallifrey when Braxiatel finds her and takes her to Romana, who has asked for her help. From here, things get complicated by the rumours of a device that could fracture time, and the "allies" of the Time Lords who want to control time themselves. Should the ability to manipulate time be available to all? What would that mean to the Time Lords?

These are great stories, and I've listened to series 1 (4 stories), series 2 (5 stories) and series 3 (5 stories) and am working my way through them again so I'm up to speed to listen to series 4.

This is great stuff, and it's nice to be able to listen to the stories from the beginning again and get them all into the overarching story arc. Looking forward to Gallifrey 1.2 now - Square One.

4.0 out of 5 stars Leela nearly steals the show 6 Jun 2009
By Peter Ingemi - Published on Amazon.com
The first entry in the Gallifrey series brings together character favorites from the companions of the 4th Doctor.

Leela, Romana (now Lord President see The Apocalypse Element (Doctor Who) , Dr Who Twin Audio CD Neverland (Doctor Who) and Zagreus (Doctor Who) ) and two different K9's Mark I and II both played by John Leeson.

The first half of the story is dominated by Louise Jameson as Leela. This is not a big surprise since her character is of dynamic action.

Romana spends most of her time fighting political battles until she is also forced to take action to get things done.

A lot of the Doctor seems to have rubbed off on both and it makes the show strong.

It is a good start for an interesting series.
