Product Description

Product Description

Rory Gallagher, Steve Marriott, Rick Derringer and Robin Trower are guitar legends. The glue behind legendary barn-busting, hard-touring outfits like Taste, The Small Faces, Procol Harum and Humble Pie, and later realizing their full potentials as solo artists, this is the first biography - group or otherwise - of four players whose dedication to music and screaming virtuosity has been inspirational to a generation of fans and admirers. Gallagher, Marriott, Derringer & Trower is a candid look at the lives of four men who combined have sold more than 60,000,000 albums. Each has a unique musical story to tell, from roots in American rhythm and blues and rock 'n' roll to the joys and perils of life on the road, as well as the pitfalls of fame and the music business. What makes their stories unique is their intense dedication to their art and the fact that the careers of these trailblazing guitarists have never been thoroughly covered in print. This is not a linear, album-by-album study. Rather, it is an in-depth conversation with the artists themselves and those closest to them, including band members, management, record executives, road managers, crew, producers, studio engineers, family and friends: fully authorized, revealing and straight from the source. Features fantastic photographs throughout, many never before seen. Dan Muise has spent his entire 25-year career in the music business covering radio, band management, production and record company promotion. He lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "must-buy", 5 Jun 2002

This review is from: Gallagher, Marriott, Derringer and Trower: Their Lives and Music (Rock Chronicles) (Paperback)
There has been little written about these four artists, and what is available is sugar-coated and vague. But this book finally depicts true and accurate accounts of the lives of four very credible musicians. The research was obviously thorough as almost every living person close to the "inner circle" and beyond was contacted and interviewed. The book depicts the truth behind the recordings, the tours and the people involved. As well as family and friends. Those of us who may have forgotten these artists will end up at record stores to buy the material again. And to those who haven't heard the music are in for a terrific education. These guys are true examples of musicians and Dan Muise tells us why. Finally......something entertaining that doesn't rely on "tabloid" journalism.

5.0 out of 5 stars You have to buy this book!, 3 Jun 2002

This review is from: Gallagher, Marriott, Derringer and Trower: Their Lives and Music (Rock Chronicles) (Paperback)
Do yourself a favor ... add this book to your collection. If you're a legitimate fan of rock'n'roll music, or would like to be, this book is a must. Dan Muise has obviously spent years interviewing the right people to make this as credible a book as there has ever been available. The four musicians featured have sold millions of records but have been lost in the rubble left after true rock'n'roll music lost its true meaning. This book will not only inform you of the lives of those featured but of the music business in general. The information comes the source. It's laid out in a frank manner and is as interesting a read as you'll find. If you're a fan of these artists, all your questions get answered, as well as things you veer knew. If you're not a fan, you will be! Do yourself a favor and get 2 copies. After constant reading you'll need to replace the worn one!

4.0 out of 5 stars Superior biography., 28 Jun 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Gallagher, Marriott, Derringer and Trower: Their Lives and Music (Rock Chronicles) (Paperback)
This is how a biography should be written without the authors normal biased or unbiased opinion Dan Muise relies on interveiws with all the main players and we get the whole story tarnished and untarnished. Of paticular intrest is the Rory Gallagher section where we get as close to the reclusive guitar hero as we are ever likely too. Its sad as with all the featured artist we hear how they were generally ripped off by management and never generally recovered from the early set backs. A great insight into Steve Marriot and paticularly Humble Pie and the underrated Rick Derringer. If i have one criticism its that there's too much on their later careers. But thats just me. Buy it!
