Great Stories and advice,

A great insight in to a great photographer, with some really useful advice and tips as well as being a good read. Though written in the days of film there is still a lot that is applicable even in today's digital photography age.
Sadly the quality of the book did not do justice as the pages especially round the photo sections became unstitched from the spine so I had to send off for a replacement after only getting to page 71. I hope to finish reading it when I get the replacement. Update: Amazon replaced the book very promptly and credited the return and the quality of the replacement appears to be a lot better (no loose pages)

Galen's book offers the novice and experienced photographer inspiration and "common-sense" advice about observing our world. He articulately describes how he does not merely use his view finder to see, but how he becomes involved in his subject. I have seldom read such a superbly crafted book.

Galen Rowell's columns are a lot of fun. They explore the whys and hows of photographys, but more importantly, provide insight to how the best photographers work. This densely packed volume range from equipment tips to philosophical discussions, and is highly recommended as a beginning Outdoor Photographer's second book.
