5.0 out of 5 stars A treasure that is highly recommended and should not be overlooked by nature lovers, 13 Dec 2009
By Midwest Book Review - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Galapagos: Both Sides of the Coin (Hardcover)
The Galapagos Islands are a unique and unspoiled location with a rich natural history. "Galapagos" is a photography book offering countless full color photographs of the natural creatures and habitat that make the islands distinct and natural beauty. Truly magnificent, it combines history and the photos well making for quite the mental and visual treat. "Galapagos" is a treasure that is highly recommended and should not be overlooked by nature lovers, or anyone looking for something special for their coffee table.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just a book of pretty pictures (though it is that too!), 27 Aug 2010
By Peter G. Allison - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Galapagos: Both Sides of the Coin (Hardcover)
This book is a leader in the new and marvelous trend of coffee table books that not only hold exemplary photography but important information about the subject as well. In a clever twist on the usual format of such books, with an amusing and charismatic shot of a blue footed booby on a sign saying 'stop', the reader is invited, if they want, to turn the book over and start from the back where the Galapagos's human history and impact is reviewed. While Graham Watkin's text is informative about current threats and conservation efforts, it never mires, and Pete Oxford's photos are revelatory whether they highlight wildlife or usually neglected street scenes. Both the author and the photographer have been deeply involved in Galapagos conservation for two decades, and their passion and knowledge shines through.

I highly recommend this book for anyone with an interest in the Galapagos.
