This is a lovely relaxing yoga DVD, well led by James D'Silva with Trudie Styler moving through the asanas beside him. James' voice is most calming with no intrusive nor irritating distractions about it. There is an express 25 minute yoga workout which is a shortened version of the full 55 minute workout.
I was a little confused when I watched the above trailer & also the interview section of the DVD prior to actually doing the yoga workout, as this showed clips of an aerobic type workout being filmed & some ballet bar work. I think this must be taken from the forthcoming Pilates DVD which Trudie is bringing out. My heart sank as I thought the yoga DVD was going to contain this sort of exercise too, but it was all good solid yoga moves, to my relief.
The backdrop is also lovely, set in the grounds of Trudie & Sting's villa in Tuscany; I especially liked the crow on the lawn seen in the background behind Trudie & James as they move through the asanas, I don't know why this caught my eye, but it seemed to add to the serenity that he stayed for so long strutting about on the grass.
The name warrior workout might alarm some, suggesting power type yoga asanas, but of course warrior refers simply to the standing pose Virabhadrasana. I find the yoga to be gentle & hypnotic, very relaxing, leaving me feeling calm & refreshed on completion.
There is a great deal on this DVD, in addition to the two workouts, there are interviews with Trudie, Sting & James, and a meditation section. I was pleased that this DVD did not take a lot of waffling time to load, you are more or less straight into your choice of which workout, without lots of introduction where you have to stand about in your exercise gear shivering (Scottish winters brrrrr!). This is a bug-bare with many other exercise DVDs.
I received the DVD on release and used it every day for a week to see how I really felt about it, I have enjoyed the yoga very much & think it will be one in my (extensive) collection which I come to often, while there are many which gather dust. I have been using it again this week, having come back to it after a slight lull; my enjoyment of it again today compelled me to write this review.
I practice yoga every day. Some days you want power yoga other days gentler yoga, I would put this in the gentler section but I am fairly fit & supple, however it still gives a very good workout to the body, with some lovely stretches. There are no inverted poses nor advanced back-bends (camel is there if you consider it intermediate). Your view point on the DVDs difficulty will be affected by whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced yogi; I think this DVD would have something for all levels, the vinyasa flow is well choreographed & really adds to the appeal. Thoroughly enjoyable.
