Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Gaggia is the best known Italian manufacturer of coffee machines for professional and household use and its name is synonymous with tradition and reliability the world over. The company was set up in 1947 by Achille Gaggia, the man to whom we are indebted for the success of espresso coffee all over the world. It was he who on September 5th 1938 filed a patent no 365726 with which modern steam-free coffee machines may be said to have been born. In 1977 Gaggia began producing coffee machines for the home, launching the Baby Gaggia, which to this day is considered to be the ideal family coffee maker. The designs and technological advances have changed the way the machines look and work but the objective of quality, reliability and the passion for the right espresso everytime has remained throughout Gaggia's history and this is what makes Gaggia legendary.

Gaggia's traditional quality and experience in espresso making joins forces with the advanced technology of the Caffitaly system. The ideal amount (8g) of ground coffee is vacuum sealed in each disposable, ready to use capsule for a great cup of genuine Italian espresso. The Caffitaly capsule is structured specifically to allow the water to fully irrigate each tiny grain of coffee, thus guaranteeing a constant even flow of coffee and above all a consistently excellent brew in the cup.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good coffee every time, 28 Mar 2008
With this machine you are guaranteed to get a good coffee, aromatic and visually appealing, every time with a minimum of fuss. You can easily adjust the strength to your taste. But bear in mind that one pod is only enough for a small espresso and you will need two or more pods to make a large cup of coffee. The cheapest pods I've found are sold by Whittard of Chelsea: 3 packs of 10 for £6.50.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ultra delicious & ultra simple, 2 May 2008
I got the Gaggia K111 as a Christmas present. I'd always resisted buying one because of the mess/expense/coffee grounds/dodgy capsules/lack of choice. I even wondered whether I'd ever get any use out of it.

The fact is, this is easier to use than a kettle and jar of instant. And it produces the sort of coffee you get in Milan. A gorgeous frothy mousse every time, plenty of richness, and all the paraphernalia thrown in (free cups, milk frother, etc). I've tried all the varieties, including an okay decaff version, but the cremoso has to be the nicest.

The capsules aren't cheap (25p a cup), but you can get them from the Cotswold company (via Amazon) at cut prices.

Quite simply the best coffee I have ever tasted. The machine is a joy to use, it's so easy to keep clean. No mess, no coffee grounds to block the sink. Ready to produce a first class cup of coffe less than a minute after it's switched on. Better than 5 stars...
