5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful work!, 2 Oct 2002

I have been many books out with Auld Scots sayings and proverbs, but I think this is the best one I have come across. Has the Gaelic saying, then the English, often with comparison to other languages that are very similar. Index for quick reference. A lot of the phrases I have naturally seen elsewhere, but no books has so many and presented in such a excellent fashion.

4.0 out of 5 stars Huge resource frustratingly ordered alphabetically, 21 April 2008
By
This review is from: Gaelic Proverbs (Paperback)
This is a fantastic collection of proverbs and phrases. They have English translations and many have quite a bit of explanation or supporting information. Many still leave me wondering what the real meaning is.

The only reason for the lack of fifth star is the lack of a decent categorisation. They are simply listed in alphabetical order. And there are so many that unless you remember the exact words a phrase started with, you've little chance of finding one you liked again (although to be fair it does have a reasonable index).
