Book Description

15 Nov 2007
Gabriella is a mythical tale about a girl-child, born with a sacred wound and a destiny to fulfil. It is the story of not only her courage, but also the courage of all those who choose to see past her obvious deformity and focus on the immense light that shines within her. Having been born into a rigid, fearful society, Gabriella's Mother flees from the Land of Never Forgetting to save her daughter's life. Gabriella not only survives, but she continues her journey, far past the seeming limits of her creation, crossing the River of Dreams and ultimately arriving at the base of the Mountain of Remembrance. As she makes her way through its strange and mysterious landscape on her climb to the summit, she must face six enormous challenges, which test her to her limits and ultimately teach her the greatest lessons of her life; lessons of courage, truth, wisdom, love, expression and inner vision. With each new discovery, she miraculously receives the gift of a brilliantly coloured touchstone and, together, these reveal a hidden mystery, which transforms not only Gabriella, but her world. Allegorical, filled with symbol and hidden meaning, Gabriella is lyrical and expressive, often feeling like a story, which, long-lost, has been rediscovered.

"Medieval.Magical.Moving...Read It!" Anthony Valentine, Actor, UK --Anthony Valentine, Actor, UK

What an absolute joy it was to read this book! Gabriella is set in a different time and place andI found myself identifying and sympathizing with her whole heartedly through her journey. The sense of pace that Ms. Malloy has provided is emotionally generous and takes you on a journey of self discovery, where I found myself rooting for the main character with tears and laughter! She sets the story in an amazing backdrop that she so clearly describes I see it before me, andfeel like I am taking an unknown path to great adventures myself, both scary and beautiful at the same time. To be able to relate to Gabriella, who, with so many obstacles to overcome, inspires me to put my own head up and face some of my own fears. How wonderful to see her embrace what is thrown at her and keep going. Meeting the next challenge and then the next. Her world is astounding in it's beauty and the depth of it's dangers, and I felt like I saw it all, experiencing a world so different than my own and yet so much the same! Cannot wait for Ms. Malloy's next book, I am totally hooked, this writer is enormously giftedand shares a spirit of a warmth and insight rarely seen on the pages of a book! Bravo! About the Author

Judy Malloy is a storyteller. She began her career telling stories on the stage and spent twenty years in New York City performing on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and touring with plays and musicals across the country. Also a recording artist, her own solo-cd, The Missing Peace, has received critical acclaim. Along with her work as a singer/actress, Judy is a healer and had a successful practice in NYC from 1995-2000. Her life in the Big Apple came to an end in June 2000, when Judy got married and moved to Dorking, Surrey to live with the love of her life, Nicholas Down. In 1998, through a series of remarkable synchronicities, their two lives overlapped, for a mere 72 hours, on the tiny island of Iona, in the Scottish Hebrides, changing both of their destinies forever. Judy believes that listening to one's own story and paying close enough attention to hear the stories of other's, even if they are only whispered, is the greatest privilege we share as people on the journey together. It is this which will make us whole.

5.0 out of 5 stars A powerful, riveting and inspirational read 31 Mar 2008
Wow - what an amazing tale!! As you turn the pages of this book you find yourself spellbound within the world of Gabriella. The description is so vivid you see and feel yourself actually present, almost experiencing the pain and elation that Gabriella feels along her challenging journey. An emotional rollercoaster with such highs and lows.

What amazed me the most though was the empathy that I felt for Gabriella. Her story is an incredible metaphor for life with all its challenges and opportunities. Her courage and resourcefulness in the face of adversity will put your challenges into perspective and inspire you to have the courage to take on the world and be all that you can be too!

Judy has a real talent for story telling and Gabriella is a real joy. If you like Paolo Coelho's writing, you will love this too.

Gabriella is a reminder for us all to cherish our differences and to foster tolerance, love and understanding.

What a novel for our time.
