Gabriel Knight 3: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned is about the New Orleans born Gabriel Knight, who in the previous games found out that he descends from a German bloodline; the schattenjägers. The schattenjägers are a long line of detectives into the supernatural. Gabriel now lives in the family castle as the last and only member of his family. In his first adventure he investigated into a Voodoo case in New Orleans and the previous adventure took him into a horrifying mystery about werewolves. This latest adventure will take Gabriel (and his trusted assistant Grace Nakimura) to the French village of Rennes-Le-Chateau, the place of an interesting enigma involving a kidnapping, vampires, the Holy Grail, the Templars, the Freemasons, Christian history and a lot of other interesting topics. Gabriel is 'hired' by Prince James to protect his infant son. The infant is supposedly in danger from a secretive sect of vampires. While the infant is under Gabriel's protection the sect kidnaps him and Gabriel goes in pursuit. The pursuit ends in a little village called Couiza just a couple of miles from Rennes-Le-Chateau. Gabriel and Grace get to explore the incredible enigma of Rennes-Le-Chateau. Along the way they will meet a lot of suspects in the kidnapping, but also a lot of very interesting people. Everyone has his or her own ideas about the mystery and Gabriel is to find out the truth. Jane Jensen, the writer of this incredible story has done another great job on this game. As was the case with Gabriel Knight 2, GK3 has a strong focus on reality. The enigma of Rennes-Le-Chateau is a real one. For several decades now historians, treasure seekers and truth seekers have been researching the mystery of Rennes-Le-Chateau. The reality in GK3 brings the story more to life; the player is drawn into the story much more than with a regular game. Before I played this game I already knew quite a lot about this mystery, for me this gave extra enjoyment in playing this game. The only problem I have with GK3 is that it is a real-time rendered 3D game, and I'm not a fan of it. But under the shadow of this absolutely great story this isn't really a problem anymore. The 3D itself is done extremely well and after a while I didn't consciously notice it anymore. I think GK3 has absolutely the best story of all the adventures I know. It's simply superb. Jane brought vampirism and the Holy Grail together in a perfect symbiosis. She created a solution to the mystery in an incredible unheard of way. She did a great job. Some will not like GK3 however, if all you want is action you'd definitely make the wrong choice in playing GK3. GK3 is a game that will take you into a mystery, you'll have to go deep into this mystery and do a lot of research. Those people who didn't like the part of Grace in GK2 will likely be a bit disappointed in GK3 as this game goes even further in that direction. If you like mysteries and thrillers you will definitely enjoy playing GK3. One thing is for sure, GK3 is not just a game for the gaming youth of today; it is for people of all ages. Some even say that GK3 is targeted more on the mature audience instead of the Quake and Unreal playing youth of these days.
