4.0 out of 5 stars Chin up bar. 29 Jun 2009
This chin up bar is excellent. It hooks on behind the door frame and is solid when used. There is a slight 'give' when full weight is applied but then I am 225 lbs. Well worth the buy. I bought this for use with PX90 excercise system. Fantastic.

4.0 out of 5 stars A review 14 July 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase
product arrived very quickly, was as described. I'd read the other reviews on Amazon before buying, so knew that either most people were bad at putting things together when instructions were naff, or there was a potential lottery of screw sizes and a risk that the device would not assemble well and be useless. I found that the instructions were naff, but if you applied a little thought it was a doddle to put together and once assembled is very sturdy.

I already had another previous product and that one was starting to give out from heavy use, all the foam grips had split and it was becoming tricky to use. As it happens, this one will only fit in one doorway of my house due to the dimensions of it - rather than the spurious ones that are published on the Amazon product page, it would be good if they published a diagram that shows all of the dimensions. The width of it in the doorway, for pulling up etc, is fine for me. However, the width or depth of the bit that hands above the door, to where it comes through the door and rests either side of the door on the other side, is the bit that I did not know and would loved to have measured up beforehand - as I have really thick walls on all but one doorway.

As for usage, it creaks noisily when taking the full weight of an adult, as the rubber rubs on the door frame, but once settled in it is fine. I enjoy the better range of hand positions and can get a good workout out of it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Delivered really quick, thats it. 19 Sep 2009
I got the bar in about 2 days which is really fast btw.
So I open the box and I have to assemble it, that shouldn't have been hard however the "D" screws and "E" screws were the same and the nuts would not tighten all the way so the whole thing was loose. Finally one of the parts wouldn't fit because the screw holes wouldn't allign after I put the rest of it together.

However recently I bought new screws and nuts and replaced all but two previous screws and nuts, now the bar is working great. And it is definetly the best bar on the market due to it having at least 6 different grip positions. Such as; close grip, shoulder width grip, outside shoulder width grip, wide grip, alternate shoulder width grip and wide alternate shoulder width grip.

So as I got it I would give it 2/5, but now as it is with new screws and nuts I would give it 5/5. Mind you the screws and nuts cost me £7.

4.0 out of 5 stars Iron Gym bar 29 Dec 2010
By madog22
I do not know how good the delivery was as this was a christmas present.

The instructions were straightforward if read before assembly was attempted. The pictoral diagram showed how the parts fitted together. To complete the assembly a spanner and screwdriver were used to tighten the nuts, which could have been pointed out in the instructions(experience provided this tip). A variety of exercises can be performed which is a great advantage over a standard chin up bar.

This bar is not collapsible once assesmbled to allow easy storage, but can be stored upright. There must be a suitable gap either side of the door to use the bar and it will fit doorframes from 24-30 inches.

3.0 out of 5 stars hard to assemble 9 Jun 2010
By Mr4
I should have read the reviews, but I didn't. As everyone else, I was baffled about the 8+2 screws which turned out to be 10 identical screws.
I spent 2 hours on assembly, having the same problem as others, with the holes and the screws that don't seem to fit, causing ultimate pain and frustration.
Believe me, there is a correct position, if you manage to lower the parts onto the screws in the right form, they do fit. I was just about to go to my car for a jack to bend the U-shaped bar 2 millimeters apart, but then it suddenly came together and finally I used a hammer to help pushing the last screw through the main bar. The nuts could only be turned with a wrench, while I was holding the other side with a screwdriver. I guess everything is tight for a reason, so the whole thing won't fall apart.
It wasn't easy, but I said to myself if this stops me from exercising, I'll never get anywhere with P90x :)
Having said all that, the documentation was poor and the product picture is kinda misleading, I assumed the bar comes assembled as it is not too big.

3.0 out of 5 stars Requires modification before its usable 1 May 2010
Ultimately I am quite pleased with this product, but unfortunately had to destroy an old pair of jeans to get it to work.

The holes for the screws at the ends of the u-shaped sections did not line up with those on the main bar. To get this to work you will either need to drill two new holes on the main bar or bend the u-shaped bar so that the ends are closer together. I wrapped and tied a pair of jeans around the ends of this section and put one of the metal bars provided in the middle. By rotating the metal bar you pull the ends of the bar together without requiring super human strength.

The door frame has to have about 4 inches clearance either side. If its flush with a side wall in a corner or inset into a thick wall this product will not work.

These caveats aside, this product is a pretty good alternative to a fixed bar and fits neatly under the bed. You are advised to drill 2 metal clips above the door frame, but these really aren't necessary, so no permanent alteration to the door frame is required.
