5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely brilliant 30 Nov 2009
By B. Clay
Format:Audio CD
Loving this mix right now, owned it a month and it's barely left my cars CD player since.

It's a little bit different from the plumps other cd's obviousley they're mixing other peoples tracks but its still phat tunes all the same. They've gone in a different direction fusing the breaks that they're known for along with some house and electro in places.

It's hard to pigeon hole this mix into any genre because it's new and refreshing CD1 is certainly better than the 2nd in my opinion but thats because it sounds more like the plumps I know and love.

The 2nd cd has more of a progressive feel to it maybe to be in keeping with the gobal underground series, but it is still very good all the same it's just a bit overshadowed by how good the 1st cd is.

If you like the plumps own albums or thier remixes etc don't hesitate to buy this just be prepared for something new and exciting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't listen to the negative dude! 28 Oct 2009
By Giddling - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Hi there...As you may be used to with previous GU outings, they could be accused of being dedicated by majority to prog house (which is not a put down, cos that was my first love in elctronic tunage). Thing is, they have actually been far more diverse than just one genre, if one were to spend more than 30 seconds thinking about it.

I do believe that the first original GU release way back when, created by one Tony De Vit (RIP) was a hard house affair, as was his follow up. Paul Oakenfold's legendary and mindblowingly good GU outings (don't know what went wrong with him subsequently) included all sorts of 'current' sounds of the era including intelligent D&B, and trance!! Even Diggers dropped some propper heavy trances tracks!

My point is, the Plumps can not be faulted for a) creating a fine pair of disks that are part of a NEW series in the GU portfolio b) creating brilliance that defines their genre in 2009!! GU is pretty much cutting edge, and their brilliance is in not selecting DJs dedicated to representing fad genres. EG some misc dubstep DJ that is all the rage now, and gone tomorrow. The plumps, ruled years ago when they first began playing their loopy beats the masses, and they rule just as hard now.

Like I said, don't listen to the 2 star geezer that obviously isn't terribly eclectic, educated or diverse in his electronic tastes. Listen to someone that has been collecting GU disks from the start... If a person can not identify with certain genres of music then they are not going to make terribly fair reviewers of that genre are they? And sorry to sound like I'm totally up my own ar*e but I'm not sure a guy from Dallas is going to be particularly great at being the final word on the world of electronic beats, or is there some underground renaissance going on that we don't know about? Perhaps the new GU should be made to refelct the sounds of Dallas, Texas? Maybe George Bush JR could mix it? So when the other guy says 'Not what GU is'.... This is exactly what GU is, and it's great!

Long live GU!

Oh yeh, and can you please get Sasha to do another one boxed boys????

A little splash of everything good in electronic music. A set worthy of decades of listening. By far one of my top 5 dance albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Mix 6 Jan 2010

Just another blinding mix from the Plumps, what else is new right? Ah, but this mix is a bit more evolved or modern as far as the 'breaks' genre goes, and it rolls with confidence and excitement. The first disc blows the doors off and the second disc takes a more progressive leaning only to mix it up with the same energy used on the first. Simply a must have release.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what GU is 21 Oct 2009
By DJ - Published on Amazon.com

Now i knew that the Plump Djs where breaks djs and have heard some of there older stuff witch was not that bad, but this is just a loud jumbled mess. I know that GU likes to change it up from time to time but this is not what I think of when I buy a GU album (like GU 34 what where they thinking).

Like Adam Freeland's GU 32, disc one is a very loud brash style of breaks that I just can't get into. From the first track to the 6th (I couldn't listen to any more) its just grimy d&b like bass lines and some had a 2 step fill to them. Some people like this style but im a more prog. breaks kinda guy.

As for the second disc its a little more bearable with not as obnoxious bass lines and some song had a four four beat. I think there are some older tracks on hear and over all it just flows a lot smother than the first cd, but still not something I would listen to very often if ever.

If you are a long time GU fan as I am this is probably not a cd you would really like, but if you are a hard core breaks fan than you should give it a go.
