Book Description

8 Oct 2007
Laurence Graffs passion for diamonds has been inspiring him to create the most fabulous jewels in the world for over three decades. This sumptuous book traces his story from his beginnings as an apprentice jeweler in the East End of London to his current position as the head of an empire of precious stones. Graffs clients are Kings and Queens, Presidents and Prime Ministers, Oligarchs and Taipans. For them he creates jewels of extraordinary vivacity and lightness which move and shimmer with the wearer. This beautifully illustrated book contains much archive material on the historic stones which are Graffs raw material as well as dazzling pictures of Graff jewels and those who wear them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, large book. Good value. 6 Dec 2011
This book is huge and looks very luxurious on my coffee table. There are of course beautiful pictures inside, but for me the most intriguing part was reading the story about how Laurence Graff built up his company from nothing. I would certainly recommend it to anyone interested in Diamonds and luxury.

The photos were fabulous the jewels breathtaking but not enough information on the man himself or the company. More like a photo album of the rich especially the sultan of Brunei.

4.0 out of 5 stars Buy it for the pictures 16 Nov 2010
By Richard W. Wise - Published on Amazon.com
True enough, as one reviewer suggested, the book is more or less a puff piece for Graff. That said, the photographs are beautiful and as the title suggests, the book does catalog a number of the world's most fabulous gems and you won't see images of these gems anywhere else.

Lawrence Graff, is with the possible exception of Harry Winston, the most accomplished jeweler of the 20th Century. His story is also well worth the reading.

I bought it for the pictures.

2.0 out of 5 stars graff 22 May 2008

Very disappointed, this book was a real let down, not worth the $150 I paid for it, Graff have better advertisments in the magazines. And it was very hard to read, not written well at all.

3.0 out of 5 stars Puff Piece, Indeed 6 Dec 2012
By scott gropp - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I purchased this book new from a third-party seller, and boy, am I glad I paid less than $30. At that price, it is definitely worth having, but if I had paid over $100, I would be returning it for sure.

Was any of the photography commissioned for this book?! As far as I can tell, there are mostly shots from advertisements and publicity releases.

Buy this if you can find a deal on it, and want to have a quick reference to some of the amazing pieces that Graff has created; just don't expect it to be an exhaustive look at their work, or to provide more than superficial information about their operation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ther title of the book says it all - 9 Jan 2010

This is Graff's collection of some of the most precious diamonds ever to be discovered. The book is huge: it has a very elegant size, the photos are very high quality and the treasures look quite sublime and alive. I am amazed how masterfully these professional photographers can manage to capture diamonds nowadays. They look phenomenal and so very crisp. You get to see every facade and edge, which is undoubtedly helpful to see some of the science behind it all... or just to appreciate their beauty in these diamonds' totality.

Check it out if you admire great diamonds, the art and science of diamond cutting and shaping, and the Graff heritage in general. If anything, it also looks extremely stunning as a coffee table book.
