Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
This 'wireless' has many genuine 'retro' features: the tuning cursor that can be moved along a display, the press buttons for changing between wave bands (though the 'Light' button has nothing to do with the old BBC Light Programme!!). The case is nicely finished, with an authentic-looking fabric covering the centrally mounted (mono) sound system. The only thing lacking is the traditional, and now quite difficult to find feature on modern radios, the Long Wave band.

The FM wave band - authentic, yes- introduced in the UK as far back as 1955 - provides access to some 15-20 stations: as expected, my local BBC radio station had the strongest signal. Reception is best when the radio is positioned facing the local transmitter with the aerial fully extended. The sound quality was very good: once the ear readjusts to it after generations of hearing stereo broadcasts, the mono sound has a very satisfying richness.

(I had problems with the MW waveband. Trying it in as many positions and orientations as I could find, at best it produced some inarticulate sound towards the 'right' end of the wave band, virtually inundated by the roar of the carrier wave. The aerial is an internal one, and the owner is warned off opening the back by a label that says there are 'no user serviceable parts inside' . In fairness to the manufacturer, I have reported this problem to Amazon; in fairness to myself with the 30 day limit now placed for Vine reviewing, I am posting this now, with the possibility of an update later)

Oct 17th: I regret I cannot add anything to this review. Amazon replied that they had only a limited number of radios for Vine reviews thus could not send a replacement.

Yes, it's basically a novelty item - a modern radio designed to look and work like a 1950s radio (albeit without Long Wave - it's Medium Wave and FM only) but with modern sound quality - but it works rather well, especially if you want something a little more retro looking than increasingly characterless modern radios. It's not as big as you expect and the construction could probably be a bit better for the price, but for those who can still remember having to search for channels by twiddling a dial instead of pressing a button there's something rather pleasingly reassuring about it.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I love this radio, it looks great, the sound quality is brilliant and it tunes in just like the old fashioned radio sets used to... so I've been told!

It only has two dials, a volume and a tuning dial. The tuning dial is wonderful! It has just enough resistance to make it tune in beautifully, enabling the operator to really fine tune in the desired station. The volume dial similarly has a wonderful quality feel to it, but in my opinion it could have more output at full volume possibly... possibly.

There are only four buttons to push, a FM, a MW, a light that illuminates the station dial and the on/off switch. So if you're intimidated by the endless options on a modern DAB radio this is an ideal choice for a technophobe. However, it isn't DAB and although there isn't any likelihood of analog being switched off until at least 2019 (apparently) there may well come a time when it will be redundant.

In essence this a great radio! I love the look, the dials have a great quality feel to them, the sound has a warm rich feel, it has good reception and tunes in wonderfully. I've got and had many radios, DAB and Analog, but this is the best I've owned so far.

My only criticism is that the manual or box should have a clear email contact or web address to contact the company by, but I did easily find the address with a web search.

I love the retro look of this radio and it couldn't be easier to use.

Strikes me as quite expensive for what it is, a basic radio with no mod cons but it does seem well-made and it tuned in easily to my favourite stations - took me a while to find them as I have got used to having a DAB radio where you don't need to think about frequencies! I was impressed by the quality of the sound, I thought it might not be too good.

The main feature of this radio is the style and design and it does look great, in addition the sound quality is good.

I think this is a beautiful design. It is well built, strong and solid. The proper cloth speaker grill gives it that genuine retro look. For someone of my age, it gives you those warm feelings from childhood memories when staying with an Aunt who had something like this on all the time. Tom Jones singing 'What's new Pussycat' and Freddie & the Dreamers singing 'You were made for Me'. It produces a good sound too. Lovely piece.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
This is a basic radio, apparently designed to look and function like an old 1950s radio. Well, it certainly does have a vintage look to it, but it does kind of feel a little bit fake to the touch, like a movie prop or something. But maybe this is what 1950s radios felt like, I don't really know. It's nice to have traditional dial controls and display.

As a radio, it does the job well enough and has more than decent volume for a regular room. But it is just an AM/FM radio, so it lacks all the modern DAB features, and true to its traditional looks, it's not something you can plug in another source like an mp3 player or a phone. I kind of like that about it, but at the same time, for this kind of price, you really need to be invested in the look of this thing to really get your money's worth.

I don't really have the nostalgic connection to this device, but I'm sure if you had an older radio, or you're just looking for something a little bit nicer than a cheap plastic model, this would probably tick those boxes nicely.
