Stiff Little Fingers were formed in 1977 in Belfast, Ireland. Along with the likes of the Clash, Sex Pistols, The Jam, Buzzcocks, Undertones, Sham 69, Stranglers, et al Stiff Little Fingers were at the forefront of the punk movement. They wrote initially about their own lives, growing up at the height of The Troubles in Northern Ireland, in songs like Suspect Device and Wasted Life . In November of 77, they released those two songs on their own Rigid Digits label, and sent a copy to BBC Radio One DJ John Peel, who started playing it every night.
These were the first of what became SLF s signature style: lyrics that meld the personal and political, music that combines the energy of punk with infectious hooks, and delivery that rings of honesty and commitment. In 1979 they became the first band ever to hit the UK top 20 album charts on an independent label with their debut Inflammable Material. The album chronicles the band s anger and frustration at the Troubles in Northern Ireland, and calls on youth to create their own reality.
After many studio albums and countless tours, Stiff Little Fingers find themselves more in demand than ever. They have currently the new album, and many of the new songs have been debuted at live gigs, with tremendous response from fans. With song titles like Trail of Tears, and Liar's Club covering topics such as the recent economic collapse, and continuing racism in the west. Jake has said, You've probably worked out by now, I don't do comedy songs!! But the songs continue to inspire fans old and new.

If you get the chance to catch them live, do so. You won't regret it!
From the opening chords of Liars Club through to When We Were Young (with it's nod to the classic At The Edge) this album does nothing but demand your attention & stir the emotions.
My Dark Places is one of the most honest & thought provoking songs you'll ever hear, I defy anybody to hear it & not react to the way it deals with depression, Jake Burns really does wear his heart on his sleeve on this track.
Throughout the whole album, I find myself totally absorbed in every track, this whole album provokes happiness, nostalgia, sympathy & sheer, balls out, anger in equal measures....They may have been around for 37 years but Stiff Little Fingers have lost none of their sense of justice, their anger at some elements of society & their ability to put their point across in a most eloquent & persuasive fashion. I defy anybody not to have a reaction to this album, it really does suck you in make you a part of it.
Thought provoking, uplifting & emotive, once you listen to this album, you'll hit the repeat button & play it over & over, I know that's all I've done since I got it.........Enjoy!!
i have every studio album they have made, and this is up there with the best of them,
SLF are a group that just dont produce Rubbish records for the sake of it, every recording is Class...
it angers me that SLF dont get the credit they deserve, when it should be them filling stadiums, not the likes of U2/greeday..
Back to this Album... its been well worth the wait for this release as its a masterpiece...
As other people have said this album makes you laugh, cry and want to batter a banker all in the space of one album. I simply can't praise it highly enough.
If you do yourself one favour, then buy it!
It's so good I bought another two copies for friends who also think it's the dogs...

Not quite in the league of Inflammable Material but then what could be? A very good album still with many tracks that work exceptionally well live - go and see SLF if you can.Published 1 month ago by Ian
