After long nights of crying, waking up, desperation, fighting, discussions in the middle of the night and dailylife totally broken because we couldn't sleep and not understanding why our daughter didn't sleep... was this really how a life with a baby should be?? As first-time parents we had no clue what to do and we followed our instincts to take her up and carry her around, but the more we did, the worse it got! The only advice we got was to leave her crying, but we didn't want to do that... It felt really cruel...

By coincidence we stumbled upon this book and Anna Wahlgren. We started to chat with people on her forum: annawahlgren.com and realised there was a way out! A loving and caring way out! Not a cruel method where you just let your kids "cry it out", but method that actually answers their questions. The best thing is that you get "live"-help from devoted parents on this forum if you have any questions about the book. Sometimes by Anna Wahlgren herself :)

We read the book super carefully, did the 10 day sleeping cure- it was SOOO simple that we felt stupid not to have done it before- all she needed was to feel safe in her bed. Practically she had to start sleeping on her belly (with alarm), daily routines, we put her to bed awake after a really hard good night laughing and tickeling until she was laughing and really happy. We stayed in her room until she was calm and sleepy, we left with a rhyme... all the things the book told us and in 3 silly nights, where only the first two were really hard work- she slept happily 12 hours without waking up once. It was like a miracle! She has to 98% slept like that since we "cured" her- she was then 6 months old. She is now the most developed girl in her day care, always happy and easy to deal with...

I never normally write reviews, but for this book I felt it was a duty to other sleep deprived parents. After persevering with the 'No-cry sleep solution' for far too long (we didn't want to go down the cry-it-out path) I decided to give this book a try and so glad I did. All I can say is that it works, my baby now sleeps 11hrs solid and after 8months of broken sleep, this is a god send. She also goes down for naps during the day very easily, which she never did before (would require white noise and lots of crying previously). The method seems very unconventional and goes again your natural motherly instincts but my baby cried far less with these methods than she did with Panley's! My recommendation would be to skip all the waffle at the start (too many testimonials and the author raving on about how your baby will soon be sleeping through the night without her actually telling you how to do it), go to about half way through to get to the meat of it because I'm sure you will be as desperate as I was and don't have time to read heaps of unnecessary pages!!

After having read and tried every other "sleep-book" on the market - but still not having slept more than 2 hours straight for more than 2 years, I finally stumbled over this wonderful book. Our 2 year-old daughter has never slept through the night and with the arrival of a little brother, who also woke up every hour or every second hour at the most, when she was 19 months, we were after 6 months with being woken by both numerous times every night at the end of our ropes. The only thing we hadn't tried was letting them scream themselves to exhaustion, but we were beginning to think it was our only option. We didn't want to put our children through this "act of betrayel" and we were also worried that it wouldn't bring our children any lasting peace (which we have heard happen to friends several times). I read this book in a couple of days and found it to be extremely loving and thought trough. Sure it is a bit creative (with wolf analogies etc), however it was VERY refreshing to finally read something new (I found that almost all sleepbooks say the same things, and only vary in how long you should let the child "cry it out") - but this is very different). The book suggests wonderful things as a "good-night laugh" as the last thing before bedtime - completely opposite to other sleepbooks that are strict to suggest absolute quietness before bed. And it works! It was also very comforting to read theories by an author, who doesn't try to downscale how ABSOLUTE AWFUL it is not to get a nights sleep!! I commenced the "cure" and expected a lot of terrible crying on the first nights. I went from breastfeeding our son 4-5 times per night to 0 from bedtime at 19.30 to wake-up at 6.30. But he didn't cry at all!!Read more ›

Our daughter slept pretty well until she was 6 months old. Slowly her sleep got worse and worse and I had to get up more than 10 times every night. We didn't want to do the controlled crying and Elizabeth Pantley's book didn't change much. Therefore, we decided to give Wahlgren's method a try. Already the first night was a massive improvement. Our daughter only woke up 3 times! We got rid if the night feeds and the dummy within the first night, no problem. Since then we had up and downs but most nights she sleeps for 10.5 or 11 hours without needing our help.
The day naps are a different story. Every time we put her in her bed she starts crying and screaming and we have to fan for ages to calm her down. I had a look through Wahlgren's online forum and this seems to be a common problem. We are now at week 5 and the naps have hardly improved. It really seems like the method just doesn't have the same effect during the day as it has during the night. Shame!
