The theory of this grip applicator is great - the vacuum pulls the grip apart, slip it over the bat handle, and hey presto - sorted. Just a few pointers for potential buyers - pulling each end of the grip over the vacuum tube isn't easy however with some persistence this isn't a problem. The vacuum doesn't remain in place for long if you stop pumping (minor leak through the valve - hint put your finger on the small exhaust hole - slows any leak down and therefore keeps the grip stretched for as long as possible. Many bat handles are oval, or have an oval taper near the bat, which prevents you getting the vacuum tube all the way down the handle - hint, although the instructions state having an even amount of grip on both ends of the tube, try to stretch far more on the front end. This gives you more grip to cover the junction of handle with the bat. Final thought, the vacuum only works if it can form a tight seal at both ends. An octopus grip wont form a seal (all those little pimples) and so you cant create a vacuum and hence cant use the applicator. No problem with scale/snake grips - the seal is easy to establish and works well. Putting a grip on a grip is a little harder as the gap between the applicator and the grip on the handle doesn't make life easy, however again it still works, and is definitely better than trying to do it manually. Overall probably worth the money even if a bit of a challenge.

I always read reviews carefully before buying anything if possible and feel it's only fair to leave reviews for others too so here goes..

Was initially worried about the potential problems of using this as listed before by others but let me just say this now..GET IT!
I used this following the simple instructions on the back and in 3-4mins flat had a shiny new grip on perfectly without stretching it too much (you'd stretch it much more using grip cone method) and I could easily put another grip over the top if necessary I reckon (got snake grips). The vacuum idea is so simple and just works - if the grip gets caught on the way down just take a bit more air out and it'll slide down again. Easy!

I really like the idea of this, clearly some thought has gone into it. As mentioned by other people it is difficult to use until you get the knack of it. I struggled for nearly an hour with two double thickness 'octopus' grips (clearly not the easiest!) and all but gave up with a lot of profanities along the way. Stretching the grips over the ends is difficult with one pair of hands, but easy enough with a helper. The issue I had with it was it didn't seal properly, so didn't work at all. In the end I wrapped several layers of sellotape very tightly around both ends of the grip where they meet the applicator and suddenly it works perfectly. I now have two bats with grips as neat as the one's they originally came with, something I can never achieve with a cone applicator as they always stretch the grip and you end up with an inch or so over the top of the handle.
Overall I've given it 4 stars for the great idea, but the interface between the grip and the applicator needs improvement, in my opinion.

Pls dont waste your time on this useless bit of kit. It looks great in theory but it is anything but that in reality. I bought this and struggled to get one grip on in the first hour. In the end I gave up. The problem is that you have to roll over the grip at both ends to create a seal for the vacuum to be created. But it is nay impossible to roll up the grip at both ends to a satisfactory level. You start pumping but the air leaks back in at either end and you never get that vacuum needed to apply the grip. A total waste of money.

Completely useless. The seal between the applicator and the grip is never airtight enough to apply the new grip properly, even with the additional application of insulating tape. In addition, the applicator tube is so narrow, it's impossible to apply more than one grip, after which it's no longer possible to fit the applicator over the newly gripped handle. I've only given it a single star because Amazon's system doesn't allow me to awards zero stars!.. I shall go back to using a traditional gripping cone...

This is a great tool, which is very reasonably priced, and makes easy work with some of the more challenging grips on the market, especially the Octopus variety which do not seal too readily because of the profile of the suckers.
There is also a knack to fitting the grips over the swaged ends of the applicator, which are a bit on the large side, requiring a strong wrist and finger action, which is best left to adults, and not youngsters.
A must have for all serious cricketers.

This was a great buy and after a few goes worked perfectly.
You won't need to struggle to put on a new grip with a cone again.

Does it do the job? Yes! Relatively easy to use, job done in less than 5 mins. The vacuum grip wasn't 100%, it would sag if you left it by itself, but it holds long enough to apply the grip to a bat. I recall reading somewhere that the hold will vary depending on the surface of the grip being applied. This worked with a grip I also purchased on Amazon - a Challenger Ringline Bat Grip ASIN: B001J9K40M.
