I originally wanted a play mat so that my girl would have a surface to play on without harming the carpet beneath it. Her grandad had a light carpet and having scribbles or wotnot appear on it would not have gone down well.

So we tried a number of tableclothes and mats, and this was by far and away the best of the bunch. For a start, its the only one that didn't get ripped to shreds after an hours use. Secondly, and to be honest this surprised me, my little girl just loved following the roads around with her toys. Indeed, since buying this we have purchased a number of extra toy cars just for the purpose of exploring the map.

It is expensive, but its definately a case of getting what you pay for. I've dinged it a point because I think a few quid could have been shaved off the price quite easily. Other than that I can't fault it. The educational value is not high. However, if you were a Geography teacher at heart, and had a spare lego set or two, I guess you could use it to demonstrate the principle of Von Thunen's rings. If that sort of thing rocks your boat then bump up the educational value by a couple of notches.

As an afterthought, I am seriously considering buying another one as she likes it so much. One to leave at Grandads, and one for here. Can't say fairer than that...
