This is a perfect, well rounded greatest hits package. If you haven't heard of George Strait, this is a terrific starter. The guy is The King of Country and, with 56 chart-toppers, has had more Number 1s than anybody else - more than Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Elvis Presley, you name 'em. He constantly delivers quality traditional country music with a relaxed, laid back, yet emotional delivery.

Now there are lots of George Strait compilations out there, but this is a perfect single-disc showcase. Obviously, there are loads of great songs missed out, but that's only to be expected. The basics are all here: All My Ex's Live In Texas, Easy Come Easy Go, Right Or Wrong, Fool Hearted Memory, The Chair, Ace in the Hole, Check Yes or No, True, Amarillo By Morning, She Leaves You With a Smile - it's a great collection, and whoever put this CD together did a darn fine job, as did King George himself in singing them. So why not go on and check this CD out, it's a great listen, with quality songs and jammed-packed with Strait hits!

Actually, there are only 24 hits here, but I'm not complaining because I hadn't previously heard the non-charting duet with Lee Ann Womack on Good news bad news.

The other hits represent the period from 1981 to 2006, when George had lots of hits and the mere release of a single by him almost guaranteed a high chart placing in the American country charts, usually but not always number one. I had most of these tracks on earlier hits collections but I like the selection here. It includes All my ex's live in Texas, which is the one song that stands out for me above all the others, but omits another of my favourites, Does Fort Worth ever cross your mind? No matter, I already have that song somewhere else.

If you want a reasonably comprehensive collection of George's hits without buying the original albums (of which there are many), you might prefer the compilations 50 Number Ones and 22 more hits. Between them, they cover the period to 2007 fairly comprehensively (though I haven't checked if anything's missing). George continues charting further hits into 2013, but his heyday is now past, with his last number one coming in 2008.

This provides an excellent introduction to George Strait's music, but as in my case, existing fans of his sometimes buy it anyway.

25 tracks of pure genius. The Good News, Bad news track features a duet with LeAnn Womack. All the favourites are here, 'She Leaves You With A Smile' being mine - how many of us blokes are lucky enough to know a woman like the one Strait tells us about!

A fine exponent of the storytelling genre, Strait's Seashores of Mexico recounts a desperado's love for a women in an otherwise desolate world 'Cause she loved the gringo, my red hair and lingo, That's all I needed to know, ha, ha. Yeah, I found what I needed on the seashores of old Mexico.'

'I Hate Everything' explains the emotional state of a man who can't get over his wife leaving him and can't move on so he stays at the bar to drink. On hearing his lifestory, a fellow drinker is forced to rethink his own problems and acts swiftly 'I said babe I'm coming home we are going to work this out. I paid for his drinks and I told him thanks

Thanks for everything'.

So there was the good news, the bad news is that the CD had to end sometime. Will keep you returning to it time and time again.
