This pocket camcorder has gotten some pretty negative reviews which seem to me to be a bit unwarranted.
I've also watched video-reviews of this product on youtube and people have criticised the quality of the HD video that they've tried to produce.

If you use a normal class 4 SD (SDHC) card to try and record FHD 1080p video then you ARE going to be disappointed with the results. Class 4 cards are not designed to handle full HD.

Splash out a little extra and get a Class 10 card - you will see the difference on the screen.

The camera is very easy to operate, to charge and to upload.
It is about the same size as a mobile phone and is easy to carry around in a pocket. The HD video quality is excellent and the sound quality is good. Taking still pictures is an easy operation with just one button to press. The screen size is large and very clear
The downside (personal opinion) is that the software editing is not the best on the market but is adequate. A large size memory card is required if you plan to do more that 30 mins of video footage.
A sleek, attractive and easy camera to use at a very cheap price.

I was keen to get a small HD camcorder to take skiing and to record the family's Christmas festivities this year. I researched them pretty thoroughly, and was getting a bit confused, when I came across the GE DV1. This is a remarkable piece of kit for the price, giving excellent HD footage and great interconnectivity with PCs and HD TVs. Just remember to buy a decent-sized SD card and an HDMI cable (mini-to-normal) with it, and download Quicktime to your PC from the bundled CD, and you're ready to go.

    House-hunting?

Have you ever tried to remember the details of a house you looked at several days afterwards?
If you have looked at several houses over a period of days or weeks, recalling the differences and details is not easy.
I mention this because that is the main purpose for me buying this camera.

I wanted something more discrete than a full-on video cam - I am uneasy about walking around someone else's house obviously photographing and videoing.

So I have had the DV1 for a couple of days testing and assessing.

It is heavier than my previous pocket camcorder Samsung U20 Full HD Compact Camcorder - Black (2.0 LCD, HDMI Output, 8MP Photo) and feels solid and well made. The Samsung was a great little device by the way.

After initial charging (4 hours) I entered the simple menu system and adjusted the settings to my liking. I set still shots to "Best" and video to 1280/720 at 60fps as this usually results in smoother panning shots without any appreciable loss of HD quality. Most of the other settings I left as the defaults. I used a Transcend 16GB class 10 SDHC Transcend 16GB SDHC Class 10 Memory Card.

The operation of the cam is mostly with three buttons - take a still photo - video on and video off (same button) - and playback. All very straight-forward.

Bearing in mind the reason for this purchase, I switched on the video and holding it facing forward at chest height I went walkabout - normal walk, no effort to smooth things out or make allowances for the video.

Purchased this to take in the water surfing in Morocco. Especially like the ability to take 5MPixel photos whilst filming a video at the same time. I have a little holder for it that I clip to a diving belt to keep it safe whilst paddling out etc. The frame rate seems a little lower than perfect when playing on PC, not sure if this is the PC software because playback on the cam itself is smooth, however, I found I soon became used to the frame rate. There isnt any image stabalisation but it is a cheap-ish cam so you have to be mindful of steading the cam when filming someone in the sea which can be tricky!! In summary the cam will create some great records for you to share with your surf buddies and you'll be risking less than 70quid in the sea, very pleased with it.

I spent a fair amount of time researching pocket HD cameras before deciding on this.
    I am not dissappointed!
Easy to use, easy to connect to the TV or PC and the quality is unbelievable for such a small device.
    I have
two friends who are buying the same!!
