I'm a Maths teacher teaching in a London secondary school. My classes use these books and find them to be accessible and helpful for revision purposes. Please do bear in mind before purchasing this book for your child that it relates to the Edexcel exam board and also, that the modular exam system is currently being phased out and hence these books may not be as relevant to your child as they were.

Before purchasing the books in these series, check the following with your child's Math's teacher:
a) what exam board is your child's school using for Maths so that you can use related materials;
b) whether your child will be sitting modular / linear exams;
c) whether your child will be sitting higher or foundation GCSE.

Your child's teacher will definitely be happy to tell you this as we really value the support from parents and families!

I was debating between giving 1 or 2 stars.

The book itself looks perfect at first glance, I love the way the questions are graded, I love the layout I love the way it tells you common errors made by students.

So why did I rate it only 1 star?
Simply due to the incorrect answers, this book is full of them. I'm only upto page 12 out of 157 but I'm getting really frustrated trying to see where I'm wrong, then finding out I was right all along and the book is Wrong!

Here are the errors I've found in the first few pages...

Page 4 Question 11 has 11a and 11b, The answer to 11b is £6.60 if counting the full cost of bottles needed, or £5.28 if only counting the amount of lemonade used. I worked out both because the question isn't clear.
The answer given in book for 11b is "3 bottles" which makes no sense at all.
The book then has an answer to question 11c but no question 11c exists! The answer given to the missing 11c is £6.60.

Page 11 Example 6b says that "30-40" is the most popular age in which men get married. This should say '31-40'

Page 11 Exercise 1D question 3 says that 8.45 rounded to one decimal place is 8.4
Clearly the answer should be 8.5 as between .5 and .9 round UP and between .0 and .4 round down. This is teaching pupils wrong!

Answer for questions on page 11 are on page 158 and are all mixed up, for example Exercise 1D qustions 1b and 1c gives the answer to this as 5b and 5c. Completely in the wrong place!

Marking your work is made extremely difficult and unreliable and I don't think I'll continue with this book, its been a waste of my time and money :(

I understand books have errors, but this book is ridiculous, I have no faith in it at all.

Excellent. Got me an A* in my unit 1 exam Alhamdulillah. It is very concise and thorough in explanation and also shows practical real-world applications of each topic at the beginning of each chapter. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to excel in their Maths GCSE.
