The GW-4000 is (as of July 2012) the latest progression in Casio's "Aviator" line of G-shock watches. If you're reading this and interested in this watch you probably don't need me to tell you that G-shocks have developed a bit of cult following since the first was released in the early eighties, and the current line up contains a variety of shapes and sizes to fit most tastes and budgets. The "Aviator" form a collection of G-shocks claiming to have high contrast, easily visible legends for viewing in the conditions of extreme lighting or high workload such as pilots may sometimes experience(!). The feature set would also support the active, international lifestyle that clearly appeals to us "jet setters".

The feature set of this watch is impressive. It supports Casio's six band radio controlled time regulation, meaning that if you're in Western Europe, the USA, Japan or China the watch should adjust itself automatically every day to show the precise time. Outside of that it reverts to the "usual" +/-15 secs a month. You also get a chronograph (accurate to 100th second if your "operating finger" is that reliable!), a world time function (dual time zone basically) and alarm functions. It's solar powered, so you'll never need to change a battery.

By comparison to it's predecessors in the "Aviator" range I believe that this model has a somewhat lager face, offset by a slightly slimmer case. The case provides all the usual G-shock protection, depth rated to 200M and this model has also been subjected to the dizzying limits of sustaining 15G (hopefully I'll not be testing that) and to prove the point Casio have used the RAF skiing team to promote this model, which I'm sure will be reassuring to know!

I bought this watch for casual and sports wear (nothing too strenuous - most golf). I have to say on arrival my first impression is that is is extremely well put together, looks technical and very solid. The feel, size and weight are ideal - not too large or too heavy to make it a nuisance but a good size with a rugged appearance. The instruction leaflet takes some digesting and I have not yet mastered all the functions but the main function - the atomic clock - was easy to set up and works without a hitch. Not sure I will ever use all the functions unless a sink hole appears in the fairway and I drop down at great speed but it will be fun trying to master all the watch can do. For the money, this makes an ideal casual watch - it is good looking and can easily be worn with suit or jacket as an alternative to a dress watch. I can do no more than recommend this without reservation - great product at a great price. Well done Casio.

Ok, I've only had this watch a few hours but I love it already. Took it out of the box and it sprang in to life immediately and set to the correct time, Shame that time was NYC but hey ho that's where the watch came from so at last it was right. I'd been expecting delivery for a few days so had already familiarised myself with the basic features and operations. It was quickly set up for my home city.

I knew I would test what charge the battery had by playing with it all evening, so I set it on the window sill for 30mins to charge before I cracked on. The manual does take a few reads to understand but I soon had my world time city set and then the alarm. I tried the alarm during the evening and found that the volume wasn't very loud. Hopefully that was because of the sounds of the house. Hopefully it will be better in the quiet of tomorrow morning to wake me up. Having said that if you want an alarm to prompt you during the day, you might miss it.

I love the size of this watch, it feels really substantial on my wrist. There are some who say it is just a dressed up GW-3000 but that one has too much going on around the bezel/circumference which makes the actual face smaller than this watch. The GW-3000 also does not have button descriptions on the front. With the amount of features and button combinations, this is quite useful.

As the title of this review says I also love just selecting the next feature in the cycle and watching the hands just spin!

Overall a great watch, little complicated to set up, but once done you shouldn't need to do any more set up. That does mean of course that when I go on holiday next year and want to set a new world time I will have to dig the instructions out again.

Nice watch, cool movement,
My one steamed up inside the glass while walking on a cold damp day, only had it two days so it has been sent back to vendor for replacement, told could take up to four weeks, so waiting patiently for the replacement.
Disappointing seeing as it's a premium g-shock, expected better, hope it's a one off!

Quality product and worth every penny.....
