Trio of cop films. In 'Hot Fuzz' (2007), when a hotshot young London cop (Simon Pegg)'s arrest record puts the whole metropolitan force to shame, his superiors shunt him to a rural posting hoping they've heard the last of him. The sleepy hamlet he's posted to, however, behind all the lace curtain politeness, is a hotbed of grisly murder and vigilantism. His diligence and character sit ill with the locals - all except the Sergeant's layabout son (Nick Frost) who's a huge fan of the cop buddy movie genre. The pair bond and end up taking on the town in a guns-blazing, granny-kicking, rocket-launching gore-fest in the interests of ridding the town of a sinister cult of pensioners who're dedicated to keeping order at any cost. 'Miami Vice' (2006), is a brooding, big-screen adaptation of the classic 1980s television crime drama from director Michael Mann. Undercover Miami-Dade police detectives Sonny Crockett (Colin Farrell) and Rico Tubbs (Jamie Foxx) are summoned to help out on an FBI undercover operation that has gone disastrously wrong. Infiltrating a dangerous world of international drug dealers, somehow linked to a home-grown neo-Nazi group, Crockett and Tubbs pose as experienced criminals able to transport goods anywhere in the world. But as they dig deeper into the criminal underworld, Tubbs worries that the mission will be compromised as Crockett finds himself falling for drug dealer Jesus Montoya (Luis Tosar)'s girlfriend, Isabella (Gong Li). Finally, in 'Smokin Aces' (2007), Buddy 'Sarah Aces' Israel (Jeremy Piven) is a comedic Vegas magician who has informed on an important mobster. The call goes in from the mobster that a million bucks goes to anyone who cuts Buddy's heart out and the FBI intercepts the call. Aces is put under the protection of agents Carruthers and Messner (Ray Liotta and Ryan Reynolds) who squirrel the magician away in his own Tahoe retreat. Pretty soon there ain't a hotel room to be had in Tahoe as countless hit men, bounty hunters and other miscreants descend, locked in the chase to off the corrupt conjurer.
