Product Description

Book Description

Assembled with the help of avid record collectors, this book is the most detailed guide to US psychedelia, garage and hippie-rock of the 1964-1975 era ever published! It provides an A-Z listing of relevant artists with discographies, personnel details, band histories, comment on the music and, in some cases, includes the personal recollections of band members. Lavishly illustrated throughout with black and white illustrations and there is also a twelve-page colour section.

Fuzz Acid and Flowers is the definitive guide to psychedelic music from the US. It is a book that has been revised many times. Initially a book called the Acid Trip and its successor, The Flashback, covered psychedelic music from around the world. They in turn were succeeded by a series of books that focused on various regions of the world. Tapestry of Delights focuses on the UK. Dream, Fantasies and Nightmares on Canada, New Zealand, Australia, & Latin America. Both of these were credited to Vernon Joynson. Two companion books by Dag Erik Asbjornsen covered Germany and the rest of Europe. [I recall an additional book for modern psychedelic bands too.]

For a long period the books were published online and in that form dozens of corrections and additions were added, which are incorporated in this edition, which now adds the Revisited part of the title.

Highly recommended.

The bible of American psych in hardbound 16 Feb 2009
By Kevin D. Rathert - Published on Amazon.com
Vernon Joynson, the most important writer regarding psychedelic music, offers his final edition of "Fuzz, Acid and Flowers" in a limited hardbound printing of 750 copies. This is the same "Fuzz, Acid and Flowers Revisited" that Joynson published earlier in soft covers and quickly sold out. One can only hope that Joynson will offer his "Tapestry of Delights Revisited" encyclopedia of British rock in hardbound at some point since he has said these are his final editions of these essential volumes. This volume does a wonderful job of covering garage, psych, and what Joynson refers to as "hippie" music. Many of the bands released a single or two, others an album or even many albums. This is the most complete review of American psych from 1964-1975 that you will ever see. Be forwarned, however, that thumbing through this hugs tome may be informative, interesting, and habit forming. Grab up these final copies as collectibles. Stash your hardbound edition for collectability sake and grab your trusty softbound edition for reading. This book is one of the few that rates owning both the soft and hard bound editions. The only short falling of this hardbound edition is the lack of Mr. Joynson's autograph. Perhaps when he publishes "Tapestry of Delights Revisited" in hardbound the author will be gracious enough to sign the copies. Regardless, this book is an absolute must for all fans of 60s/70s garage/psych rock. The price may be hefty, but that just shows how important this work is, and indicates its appreciation in value. Thanks to Vernon Joynson for all his years spent putting this absolute gotta have volume together. One can only hope that he'll change his mind and update the work in the future. The entries include bios of band members, original single and lp releases including catalog numbers, info regarding cd releases and compilations, and extremely valuable and accurate reviews of each band's releases. This and so much more. You will not regret the hefty price once you have the volume in your hands. Get it while you can.
