Future Vintage-pure brilliance,
By A Customer
This review is from: Future Vintage: An Alternative Collection from the Warner Archives (Audio CD)
I recently purchased this album not knowing what to expect. But from the first 5 seconds of Kronos Quartet I could tell this was a compilation with a difference. After listening to the album I became quite reminiscent of those hazy days of the 80s and 90s where these songs came into play from either mainstream and underground alternative music. It was great to be reminded of true talent from the likes of Jason Faulkener (Jellyfish) and Joesphine Wiggs (The Breeders) and there was even some songs form the likes of Evan Dando who still are very much in the music industry today in one way or another.(God that makes me sound old). From purchasing this album I have realised the true meaning of alternative and I now understand where many mainstream and underground alternative bands from nowadays have gained their inspirations.Go on indulge in the pure brilliance that is Future Vintage.

A compilation that's not terrible - shock!,
This review is from: Future Vintage: An Alternative Collection from the Warner Archives (Audio CD)
It's hard to find good compilations in a crowded market. They're rarer than North Sea Cod at the moment, but somehow Warner Music have pulled one out of the bag. The concept is simple. Warner music have compiled the best alternative songs from their subsidiaries from the past 15 years or so - and made an absolute killer album. It's got 20 songs in total - and I've listened to it 3 times now. There isn't a bad song. I knew roughly half of the tracks before purchasing, they're all worthy of inclusion. The collection opens with the bizarre yet appealing 'Mini Skirt' but the Kronos Quartet and then hits us with two absolute sucker punches to make us submit wholeheartedly - the Violent Femmes' classic 'Blister in the Sun' and the Flaming Lips 'She Don't Use Jelly'. How can you follow those tracks? Quite easily, it would appear, if you have access to Warner music's back catalogue. We have delights by Fountains of Wayne, Summercamp, They Might Be Giants, Ben Kweller, The Lemonheads, Faith No More and loads of others that I haven't even mentioned. Buy it. Today. It'll be the best money you've spent in a long time - and will introduce you to a whole loads of bands you don't know that much about, but probably should.

the best of the best ofs,
This review is from: Future Vintage: An Alternative Collection from the Warner Archives (Audio CD)
The ultimate compilation album, if you ask me.One fine track follows another, and when you get to the end you'll want to stick it right back on again. There are some obvious classics on here -the Fountains of Wayne, the Flaming Lips and the They Might Be Giants tracks, for example - but there are some hidden diamonds as well such as the dulcet tones of Ben Kweller and Jason Faulkner. This TRULY is a must for all cd collections. It's a great start for anyone who wants to add some new life to their cd rack, as it will get you inspired to go out and buy something you've never heard before. Buy this, and your sex life will improve. Warner have done good.
